Position Title: Market Development Manager – Home Fragrance EMEAReports to : Vice President, International Market DevelopmentLocation: London / Amsterdam / Germany (home based)Job Summary:

Reporting to the Vice President, International Market Development and therefore a member of the Indirect Markets commercial management team, this role is to assume responsibility for all aspects of commercial development and management of assigned markets within EMEA region. This will include full P&L, revenue, channel and account development accountability for assigned portfolio of brands and markets.The Market Development Manager (MDM) is the local representative and “ambassador” for the Newell Home Fragrance (NBHF) EMEA within assigned and prospective indirect markets (Distributors) business channel. Home-based office with flexibility regarding location of candidate within UK-EU. This position is accountable for developing and delivering assigned revenue objectives with a clear commercial and brand orientation. He/ she contributes actively to optimize internal resources and processes in order to have the greatest impact on the business results and future growth.

Job Duties:
  • Closely work with the Vice President, International Market Development to scope future core and innovative growth opportunities, including how to best optimise under-developed market, brand and channel positions and to drive Newell Brands Home Fragrance growth within them.

  • Work with internal and distributor partners, defining clear trade channel strategies and below-the-line plans that, taking into account all challenges and opportunities, maximise the potential present in both developed and developing trade environments. This may include direct sales, network distribution, licensing, etc... as determined by VP, International Market Development.

  • Developing clear and compelling commercial strategies by market, that reflect the different dynamics, positioning and marketing mix of assigned brands within NBHF portfolio and deliver strong, defensible market positions in targeted markets and categories.

  • Explore possibility for entries into markets in which NBHF does not currently have a foothold and, subsequently, managing the establishment of an appropriate form of presence that drives profitable growth within global division category strategy priorities.

  • Find the means to drive growth through both increasing demand and reducing the cost base (COGS, value chain, contract negotiations).

  • Making investment decisions within assigned region, that are supported by relevant return on investment learning and insight so as to ensure that the EMEA indirect markets network is focused on the markets and categories with greatest potential.

  • To achieve all objectives as contained in annual CY Plan, such as those related to volume, net sales value, profit and cash flow. Deliver accurate reporting and forecasting of market inventory requirements, providing maximum transparency to EMEA Executive Team.

  • Work closely with assigned market partners, providing support, ideas, exploration and investment guidance required to enable them to succeed and make decisions relevant to their individual markets. Co-ordinate the transfer of ideas and best practice, being an advocate for assigned market partners internally within NBHF EMEA.

  • To establish credibility and to maintain close and productive relationships with key internal personnel within Newell Brands Home Fragrance EMEA

  • Act as the central point of reference regarding assigned EMEA markets, to ensure that the plans and needs of these businesses are known and integrated across the EMEA business, and that key stakeholders are engaged at an early stage in regard to matters which may affect them or about which they will need to make decisions.

  • To ensure adherence and act as a role model for Newell Brands values and priorities. To act as an advocate of a positive, constructive business culture and to lead “from the front” and by example.

  • Represent and participate in particular with external parties (trade bodies, regulators, trade events) as appropriate, with this potentially including the management and delivery of programmes and other initiatives.

  • To build a detailed understanding of Newell Brands Home Fragrance, including its products, capabilities, customers, competitors and trends, challenges, opportunities and initiatives within assigned markets and region. To utilise the information and insight thus gained to drive strategy, excellence, competitive advantage, innovation and best practice.


Qualifications:

  • Business Administration degree (international development an asset), MBA preferred

  • 5+ years of Pan-EMEA sales & market development experience - preferably within related industry

  • Strong commercial track record (revenue, market development, category management)

  • Additional assets would include – market insight analysis, and market contract negotiation

  • Profound understanding and affinity with international sales planning & operations

  • Strong results orientation – proactive – willing to take initiative and lead projects

  • High relational skills and people management experience in a multinational context

  • Advanced financial understanding, and capable to prioritize workload

  • Proficiency (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)

  • Proficient in English, additional languages a definite asset – e.g. French, Spanish, German, Italian

  • Willingness to travel, as position requires frequent travel in Europe
