Job Description

#TeamNextdoor

Nextdoor is where neighbors turn for trusted connections and the exchange of helpful information, goods, and services. Nextdoor’s purpose is to cultivate a kinder world where everyone has a neighborhood they can rely on.

Building connections in the real world is a universal human need. That truth, and the reality that neighborhoods are one of the most important and useful communities in our lives have been guiding principles for Nextdoor. Today, neighbors rely on Nextdoor in neighborhoods around the world in the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, France, the Netherlands, Italy, Spain, Sweden, Denmark, Australia and Canada, with many more to come.

Meet your Future Neighbors

The Data Science team at Nextdoor is part of the Data org, which also includes Business Intelligence and Data Engineering. At a high level, the Data org is responsible for the building and maintenance of data infrastructure as well as the use of that infrastructure for internal reporting, analysis, and modeling. Data Science at Nextdoor is responsible for design and oversight of product experiments, analysis and modeling to drive company and product strategy, and, where applicable, the deployment of online and offline models to a production environment. We use a semi-embedded team structure, in which a group of data team members works on a specific product or pillar, interfacing directly with product and engineering stakeholders. The Data Science group is made up of people from a diverse set of backgrounds and perspectives, trained in fields as wide-ranging as psychology, geology, physics, and statistics. Data Scientists at Nextdoor serve as the mathematical decision scientists for their product group and play an active and collaborative role in improving the product.

The Impact You’ll Make

In this role, you'll work with Product and Engineering to answer strategic questions, conduct research, and help distribute important data throughout the organization. You'll own analyses, test plans, and contribute directly to our product roadmaps - all while having fun along the way.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct in-depth analysis of Nextdoor data, analyzing community growth, platform engagement, and ads performance
  • Partner with cross-functional teams to support product development efforts (including product, design, engineering, marketing, operations, and sales)
  • Drive self-service with our data by creating and documenting new data sources, ETL jobs, and dashboards
  • Develop and share key strategic insights through data analysis, visualization, and story-telling
  • Create and optimize statistical models and algorithms to help drive product and strategic decision-making
What You’ll Bring to The House
  • Currently pursuing a strong quantitative Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Ph.D. degree with expected graduation in Spring 2022 or later
  • Some proficiency with SQL
  • Familiarity with Python/Pandas, R, Matlab, or some other computational analysis software
  • Strong presentation and communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Ability to understand, tackle, and communicate problems from both technical and business perspectives
  • Innate curiosity around finding meaningful insights that inform the way we think about and develop both our product and our business strategies

At Nextdoor, we empower our employees to build stronger local communities. To create a platform where all feel welcome, we want our workforce to reflect the diversity of the customers we seek to serve. We encourage everyone interested in our purpose to apply. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, gender, religion, sexual orientation, age, or any other trait that unfairly targets a group of people. In accordance with the San Francisco Fair Chance Ordinance, we always consider qualified applicants with arrest and conviction records.

About Nextdoor

At Nextdoor, we have an enormous opportunity: restoring communication, connectedness, and community to neighborhoods around the globe. It’s a bold goal, but if you think about it, we are in danger of losing touch with the people right outside our front door. The neighborhood has played a key role to so many, and could be thought of as the original social network, yet now many don’t know a single neighbor by name. If your first taste of business was behind a lemonade stand, or you remember the days of borrowing a cup of sugar from your neighbor, or you know the present-day struggle of finding a strong sense of community in your neighborhood, then you’re one of us.
