Purpose of Job
We are currently seeking a talented Architectural Design Manager Lead for the San Antonio Home Office I.
Responsible for providing architectural and interior design direction and oversight of major design activity for USAA's owned and leased real estate portfolio. Provides the design team with technical design direction based on standards for the workplace and facility infrastructure (additions or renovations) necessary to support the operational business needs of USAA in a timely, efficient and cost-effective manner. Provides architectural and interior design coordination with all key stakeholders and operational groups.

Tasks:
- Responsible for engaging architects and engineers in design services with approved scope and oversees the contractual deliverables.
- Responsible for ensuring USAA maintains a sufficient base of quality design/architectural professionals for the performance of necessary design activity by regularly assessing working relationships, financial strength, competitiveness, project performance (quality of work, cost, schedule etc) and adherence to USAA design standards and policies.
- Responsible for proper design content, budgeting and coordination with all key stakeholders and operational groups through the Schematic (as appropriate), Design Development and Construction Document phases of the contract.
- Responsible for supervising various design activities by the design staff professionals in all phases of the Design Project Management Process which includes schematic (as appropriate)/design development/ construction documents (architectural, engineering), and final development of a defined project scope with adherence to USAA's Workplace standards and ensuring the Workplace project program is translated to the final design solution.
- Responsible for ensuring all design efforts comply with current USAA standards while incorporating leading and validated design technologies and strategies for sustainable design to maintain or promote LEED, Energy Star or other "green" designations for USAA's real estate portfolio as aligned by USAA's Sustainability strategy.
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree or 4 additional years of related experience beyond the minimum required may be substituted in lieu of a degree (12+ years of experience in lieu of degree).
- 8 or more years business experience and knowledge in creating architectural and engineering contracts, to include design project management experience, and working with matrix managing architectural and engineering professionals.
- Experience communicating and negotiating with key stakeholders.

Preferred Requirements:
- Extensive experience with authorities having jurisdiction.
- Working knowledge of ADA and other relevant local, state and federal codes.
- Knowledge of standard and specification development.
- Previous leadership experience
- AIA Certification
- Working knowledge of AutoCAD, Revit, and Archivus
- Experience working at an architectural firm
