Internship: Open Source DBs as a Cloud Service in the IBM Cloud

Your Role and Responsibilities
The IBM Cloud Database (ICD) team is a young, dynamic team that provides open source databases to customers via IBM's public cloud platform. We work with databases such as PostgreSQL, Redis, MongoDB or Elasticsearch. Part of our work is focused on working closely with our Kubernetes platform and writing operators. The majority of all newly developed cloud-native applications use one or more instances of our open source databases. Therefore, we are a cloud service with a rapidly growing customer base. Our team comes from the startup "Compose" and we live this startup culture on in our worldwide development team.
Our Cloud offerings are continuously improved and new features are added frequently in an agile fashion. We are looking for competent, interested students who will work with us to develop prototypes for future new functions. In return, we offer an insight into the development of an IBM Cloud Service.
We offer various topics you can use to sharpen your skills. Based on your interest you could work on:
- improving our metrics and operational tooling that will be used internally and externally
- improving our CI/CD pipeline and parallelize our workloads
- working on database related implementations around backup/restore and backup rotations
- introducing Chaos Engineering and creating database specific test cases
- ...
On mutual interest, after the internship we offer to support writing a thesis (primarily MSc) in cooperation with us.
