Your Role and Responsibilities
Do you want to know how a high-performance processor is designed and want to be a part of a leading-edge chip development team? Are you interested in hardware logic design and electronic design automation and like to gain deep insights in a highly flexible, agile and international hardware development team?
Then we are happy to offer you a unique deep dive into IBM’s hardware design methodology and be part of Germany's IBM Research & Development Lab community, outstanding for its innovation and team spirit offering one of the broadest project portfolios of hardware and software technologies within the IBM Corporation.
Project 1: Future FSI Replacement -> USB / Ethernet on a Processor Chip
During your internship you will work in the Chip Logic Design Team to add a USB interface into the processor chip. USB is intended to act as an additional service interface into the processor chips. You will gain insights into various areas of a leading-edge high-performance processor design, from pre validating the USB functionality in a FPGA environment, integrating the USB logic into a processor chip, validation approaches in the chip context, up to physical design and physical integration aspects.
Requirements:
- advanced FPGA skills
- HW Logic design
- integration of IP components
- German and English : fluent
Project 2: Advanced Chip Configurator
During your internship you will work in the Chip Logic Design Team to develop a GUI based chip configurator. This configurator is intended to interact with and steer various processing steps in our current logic design automation process. You will gain insights into various areas of a leading-edge high-performance processor design, from functional units to complex blocks supporting redundancy, availability and serviceability and help us improving our diverse automated design generation flow from logic design and verification up to physical design and physical integration.
Requirements:
- advanced skills in programming languages like C++ and Python
- HW Logic design
- interest to work on electronic design automation
- German and English : fluent
