Description:

The mission of the KPNW Clinical Laboratory Information Systems Department is to optimize the use of the lab and Kaiser systems across the Region in order to achieve high priority goals in clinical care and business outcomes. The department does this through diligent and conscientious attention to user needs, through partnerships with National and Vendor Systems in the continued development and enhancement of the system, through partnerships in the Region with NWP, IT, and the Labor Management Partnership, and by applying medical systems to meet problem-oriented and opportunity-driven objectives.


Essential Functions:
- Operational and Informatics Expertise:
- Guide users in daily computer system interactions.
- Provide expert advice on the use of the Laboratory Information System (LIS).
- Support responsibilities include all clinical systems used directly by the laboratory staff, or indirectly through system-to-system interfaces.
- Monitor system performance and resolve system errors.
- Employ the use of existing programs for error investigation and resolution.
- System and File Maintenance:
- Perform file maintenance on the LIS and on other Kaiser systems that receive laboratory data.
- Provide expert advice to other laboratory staff performing file maintenance.
- Under direction of Programmer/Analyst, plan, document, write and implement custom reports.
- Specify requirements and build application files to implement or modify instrument interfaces.
- Participate in defining and completing validation processes for new application functions or versions.
- Write and maintain documentation of the use and maintenance of the LIS.
- Participate in periodic audits of documentation to assure compliance with regulatory and accrediting requirements.
- Project Management:
- Conducts the resolution of production problems in a single KPNW Cerner systems module.
- Collaborate with work teams, departments, regional leadership, clinicians, staff, and information technology to define needs, facilitate agreements and decisions.
- Application and Interface Enhancements/Development:
- Assess customer needs, research options, design, test and implement application solutions.
- Examples of this work include:
- (1) introduce tools to meet specific department, team or strategic needs;
- (2) deploy tools that optimize the decision support capabilities of Cerner;
- (3) identify opportunities to improve the human-computer interface;
- (4) support application interface solutions to meet informational needs of customers.
- Help configure new features or modules for integration with installed LIS (Cerner, Telcor, Mediware) applications.
- As the subject matter expert, test system changes, review training materials, assess workflow impact and solutions, and support deployments.
- Support test script development, test data validation, test results analysis, defect and problem resolution and identification of problem fix.

Basic Qualifications:
- Undergraduate degree or minimum four (4) years of equivalent work experience in health care administration, information systems, business, a health care profession, library science, or information resource management
- Cerner Certification CoPath or PathNet required within 6 months of hire date.
- Demonstrated skills in project management.
- Demonstrated ability to lead and manage multidisciplinary teams through influence and collaboration.
- Demonstrated working knowledge of computer applications in business settings.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Must exhibit efficiency, collaboration, candor, openness, and results orientation.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Three (3) years of experience using at least one of the Cerner suite et al of application products or completion of Cerner certification in an application(s) preferred.
- Kaiser Permanente experience preferred.
- Direct experience implementing business information systems in the Northwest region preferred.
- Advanced degree in medical informatics, computer science or a related health care field preferred.
- Knowledge of functional areas and/ or systems analysis preferred
- Knowledge of research and evaluation design preferred.
- Demonstrated experience leading a multidisciplinary project to successful completion preferred.
- Demonstrated experience with office software, e.g., PowerPoint, Excel, Word and/or MS Project preferred.
- Public speaking skills preferred.
