Market Job Description


This position will support the WFBI Head of Operational Risk and wider WFBI Operational Risk team for all day-to-day Operational Risk activities; developing, implementing monitoring of operational risk based programs across WFBI and operating as a partner / sounding board for the front line risk teams / senior management.
Responsibilities will include the identification, assessment, measuring, monitoring and mitigation of all operational risk that arise from inadequate or failed internal processes, controls, people, systems or external events, while maintaining a balance between risk mitigation and operational efficiency.
This position, under the leadership of the WFBI Head of Operational Risk, will also work closely with the EMEA Operational Risk team to ensure appropriate implementation of regional initiatives where appropriate/relevant

Responsibilities:


Delivery of Operational Risk Framework components across WFBI within agreed timelines, including, but not limited to:
  • Issue Management
  • Governance and Reporting
  • New business initiative and change/remediation project risk assessment
  • Development and delivery of Corporate Risk Management Programs for WFBI supporting the following drivers of Operational Risk:
  • Third Party Risk
  • Technology Risk
  • Business Continuity Risk
  • Information Security Risk
  • Human Capital Risk
  • External Fraud Risk
  • Data Management Risk
  • Financial reporting Risk
  • Information Management Risk
  • Fiduciary and Investment Risk
  • Safety and Physical Security Risk
  • Transaction Processing and Execution Risk
  • Contribute to development, implementation and monitoring risk based programs to identify, assess and mitigate any operational risk that arises within WFBI in line with EMEA regional approach where appropriate/relevant.
  • Continual development of the IRM component of the WFBI Risk Control Self-Assessment (RCSA) and Business Process Risk Management program (BPRM); providing oversight and credible challenge to Lines of Business and Support Functions by ensuring risk identification and control effectiveness are assessed, measured, monitored and reported on an ongoing basis.
  • Assess all Operational Risk Incidents pertinent to WFBI and provide appropriate review and challenge. Work with business partners to identify risk mitigation plans, considering wider impact on the EMEA region where appropriate/relevant.
  • Manage self-disclosure of risks and proactively monitor Shared Risk Platform issues and corrective actions impacting WFBI to ensure that progress is being made, information is updated in the system, closure of issues are appropriately verified and items of concern are escalated in line with procedures.
  • Development and analysis of Key Risk Indicators, and Statement of Risk Appetite metrics for WFBI Operational Risk in line with EMEA regional approach where appropriate/relevant.
  • Support the Lines of Business and Support Functions in developing a clear understanding of their operational risk profiles and subsequent responsibilities. Provision of operational risk support, advice and guidance to ensure appropriate operating procedures and controls are in place across WFBI.
  • Maintain internal control standards, including timely resolution of internal and external audit points and any issues raised by regulators relating to WFBI .
  • Support the operation of the WFBI risk governance structures as part of the EMEA regional risk governance structures, providing relevant, accurate and timely management reporting and present at appropriate governance fora.
  • Provide accurate and timely responses to address regulatory requests.
  • Provide cross training to support depth of coverage within WFBI Operational Risk team and where required the EMEA OR team.
  • Develop and deliver training around lessons learned from internal and external events.

Market Skills and Certifications


Skills/Experience Required:


  • Extensive experience in all aspects of operational risk within Wholesale Banking and Finance industry.
  • Experience of leading and delivering Operational Risk Programs.
  • Knowledge of lending operations and operating models.
  • Extensive experience in delivering Operational Risk identification/assessments (RSCA and Basel III) and the identification and setting of risk indicators.
  • Knowledge of operational risk methodologies.
  • Strong commercial awareness of the financial drivers and risk activities of a banking services operation.
  • Demonstrated ability to build partnering relationships across the company at all levels (persuasive, good listener and assimilator of ideas and perspectives).
  • Excellent analytical skills, with the ability to identify problems and develop solutions.
  • Proven interpersonal, organisational and communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with change.
  • Relevant business/accounting degree or equivalent.
  • Operational Risk qualification a plus.
