Description: Provide accounting services that ensure accurate, timely and meaningful financial reporting. Ensure the integrity of accounting information by recording, verifying, consolidating and entering transactions.
Essential Functions: - Perform duties in areas of responsibility during month, quarterly and annual close, which can include the following: Ensure proper cut-off and recording of revenue related accounts such as Medicare fee for service, membership dues, and other revenue. Reconcile physical inventory results to control accounts; assist in posting monthly activity JEs; recommend write-offs, adjustments, or changes in policy. Analyze and prepare journal entries and account reconciliations for payroll related accounts such as bonus accruals, sales incentives, workers compensation, payroll and fringe benefits. Obtain and review banking and investment statements; analyze such reports in detail to perform monthly account reconciliations. Prepare listing of outstanding checks. Calculate and post realized and unrealized gains and losses. Analyze claims and referrals categories to determine current cost and utilization; prepare detailed schedules of the categories and evaluate adequacy of monthly accrual. Review capital equipment accounts; assist in asset tagging, physical inventory reconciliation; analyze CWIP accounts, leases, and capital equipment purchase requests. Recommend write-offs. Coordinate accounting analysis and review for departments outside of General Accounting such as the Dental Group, Northwest Perm Assoc., and interregional activity.
- Maintain accuracy of financial records, including general ledger and subsidiary ledgers. Analyze accounting data for validity and propriety. Research and resolve identified discrepancies. Recommend or initiate corrective action. Assist with preparation of schedules for financial statements and other financial reports. Review accounts for proper reporting classification and prepare verbal and written analyses. Organize and plan chart of account maintenance, set up new accounts as requested with proper approvals. Perform various other general ledger duties such as testing combo-edits or running allocations as necessary.
- Apply regional accounting policies, practices and procedures, which include the following: Provide technical expertise to the Region and support Program Office finance staff in evaluating new standards, responding to data requests and providing input and advice. Research and resolve issues with other departments, recommend actions and develop written uniform procedures. Review and research Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) and Statements of Statutory Accounting Principles (SSAP) publications and, in conjunction with Program Office. Prepare verbal and written analyses to determine applicability to regional accounting policies. Ensure timely and accurate preparation and reporting of data to state and federal regulatory agencies.
- Cross-train and provide cross-training learning opportunities for other staff members; Assist in development and implementation of policies, procedures, goals and objectives. - Perform other duties as requested.
Basic Qualifications: Experience
- Minimum three (3) years of progressive general accounting experience including financial statement preparation; analysis; review and preparing of tax returns.
Education
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance or business administration with an emphasis in accounting OR four (4) years of experience in a directly related field.
- High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) required.
Licenses, Certifications, Registrations

Additional Requirements:
- Thorough knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and their application.
- Working knowledge of financial systems e.g. Payroll, Accounts Payable, Budgeting, Purchasing, Claims and Referrals.
- Proficiency with personal computer programs such as Excel, MS Word, and Lotus Notes.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Minimum one (1) year of experience in training and reviewing work of others.
- Experience with PeopleSoft and other finance related applications.
- Experience preparing comprehensive specialty reports e.g. Insurance Commissioners Report, property tax affidavits, etc.
- CPA (Certified Public Accountant), CIA (Certified Internal Auditor) or CMA (Certified Management Accountant).
- Proficiency in the interpretation and application of SSAPs (Statements of Statutory Accounting Principles).
