Position Overview:

Lilly Imaging Research and Development/Avid Radiopharmaceuticals provides technical expertise for molecular imaging to Lilly Research Laboratories. The Postdoctoral Scientist will provide expertise for biological target evaluation for the development of novel PET imaging agents, with a focus on neuroinflammation imaging in neurodegenerative diseases and potentially other disease areas (e.g. auto-immunity). A novel technology taking advantage of spatial resolution has been identified for this project and data generated will have a high impact on existing Lilly programs. We are looking for a highly motivated postdoctoral fellow with background in neuroscience/neurobiology and morphometry analysis, who will work on identifying novel targets in neuroinflammation.

The Postdoctoral Scientist will be responsible for designing, developing and implementing immuno-histological as well as cellular and biochemical cell profiling experiments. The scientist will be integrated in the Lilly Research Labs Post-Doc community and will benefit from internal cross-functional interactions as well as various training and data sharing opportunities with internal teams and the international scientific community.

Candidates with a strong background and hands-on expertise in neuroscience and neurodegenerative disease research are encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities:

• Design, develop, and validate tissue-based assays for neurodegenerative disease research
• Provide strategic and technical expertise on the design and optimization of protein target detection and morphometric quantitative analysis methods
• Novel imaging target evaluation and validation
• Ensure good laboratory practice for data documentation
• Interface with cross-functional colleagues in areas such as Biology, Chemistry, Imaging Analysis and other therapeutic areas from Lilly Research Labs
• Author scientific publications and present data at international scientific conferences

Basic Qualifications:

• PhD in Neurobiology or Neuroscience, Immunology, Molecular or Cell Biology, Biochemistry, or related fields required by start of assignment

Additional Skills/Preferences:

• Proficient in immunohistochemical and biochemical analysis of human derived tissue and knowledge in neuroanatomy and neuropathology
• Demonstrated excellence in one or more of the following areas: working with brain tissue, cell and molecular biology, immunochemistry, evaluation of small molecules and/or biologicals, imaging analysis modalities, development and validation of screening assays, big data handling
• Ability to work independently in a fast-paced team environment and with multidisciplinary teams
• Excellent oral and written communication skills and record of peer-reviewed publications
• Desire to lead a translational research project
• Experience with morphometric analysis software and macro development, Prior experience with machine learning is an advantage
• Hands-on experience with animal models of neurodegeneration/neuroinflammation or immune cells isolation
• Hands-on experience with single-cell transcriptomics and proteomic datasets
• Experience in drug discovery of PET molecular imaging agents

Additional Information:

• 0-10% travel
• This position is not permanent. It is for a fixed duration of two years with potential to extend to 3 years and for maximum of up to 4 years
