Status: Regular/Full-Time

Position Overview: Based out of our Ottawa facility this role provides financial leadership for the APOC Operations (this includes Manufacturing, Supply Chain, R&D, Quality and Regulatory Operations) and is a member of the APOC Operations leadership team. APOC Operations Finance must provide financial counsel and support to the Manufacturing, R&D, Quality and Regulatory Vice Presidents and their senior staff members. Financial counsel and support are provided via the following specific activities: financial planning & analysis, financial reporting & analysis, general accounting, and internal control. APOC Operations Finance also provides key financial data/information to the Division President and the Division Staff members. The incumbent's primary function is to execute the full range of controllership responsibilities for APOC Operations, while 1) ensuring timeliness, accuracy and integrity of all financial information and 2) providing for compliance with Corporate and Division financial policies and procedures. Reporting directly to the APOC Division Controller with operational responsibility to the Operations Vice Presidents.

Responsibilities:

  • Direct the financial planning process for APOC Operations: The reasonableness of Annual budget/LBE’s and other financial forecasts must be validated in terms of market conditions, competitive pressures, regulatory environment, product availability and resource constraints.
  • Provide financial support to the Supply and Product Portfolio steps of the Integrated Business Planning process as well as tracking/monitoring progress, profitability and
  • return on investment of the related projects.
  • Ensure availability of timely and well presented, high quality P&L, balance sheet, cashflow & capital results & projections vs. appropriate benchmarks, as well as, trended information.
  • Financial support to the development and execution of the APOC Operations long-term strategy and roadmap including Gross Margin Improvement initiatives.
  • In addition to the day-to-day managerial function, the role will incorporate strategic and policy development aspects that will have medium and long-term consequences on the operation of the function and perhaps impact elements of organization performance.
  • A high degree of integrity and quality is therefore expected and required at the macro (summary) as well as micro (product) levels.
  • In conjunction with the Operations and Division Information Systems groups, define and implement strategic and tactical financial systems development and support plans that ensure a consistent approach to financial data management and processing.
  • Ensure adequate internal controls are established/maintained. This entails not only compliance to established Abbott financial policies and procedures, but also to Abbott's Code of Conduct and the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act guidelines.
  • Collaborate with Corporate Tax in the resolution of manufacturing issues.
  • Directs a range of financial planning and analysis activities through a team of manager.
  • Promote financial personnel development and management's knowledge of finance.

Required Education and Experience:

  • B.A./B.S. in Accounting or Finance.
  • Advanced degree (such advanced degree (such as MBA, CPA and/or CMA) is desirable.
  • 10-12 years of diverse financial experience, including financial planning, reporting and analysis, general accounting, cost accounting, internal control and people management.
  • Ability to present material to Executive-level management.
  • Ability and aptitude to provide solutions and contingency plans through the comprehensive review of alternatives.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to professionally interact with all levels of the organization. Position involves frequent interface with Vice Presidents and their staffs.
  • A proven track record of partnering cross-functionally with various stakeholders to produce and deliver well-synthesized analyses, narratives, and recommendations to diverse audiences, including senior management.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong knowledge of accounting and finance principles with the ability to apply this knowledge to support business needs.
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member.
  • Ability to prioritize; strong organizational and planning skills; strong intellectual curiosity.
  • Must thrive in a fast-paced and dynamic company environment.
  • Strong financial modeling skills and business acumen, with the ability to drive projects from start to finish.
