Plans, designs, develops, analyzes, communicates, and implements benefits strategies and programs consistent with the company business and HR strategies across the businesses, functions, and/or geographic areas of the company. Consults with and trains business leaders to develop, plan and implement benefit solutions to address unique organizational needs and requirements. Manages consultants, vendors, employees, and third parties in a heavily matrixed organization to ensure program delivery. Analyzes and interprets internal and external data to model changes to health and welfare programs. Examines impact of benefits on the total organization and various sub-groups including Board members, executives, sales employees, and specific business segments. Monitors legal and regulatory changes to ensure compliance.
Manage the benefits function in the design, evaluation, implementation and on-going management of health and welfare programs initiatives, including analyzing current patterns of program usage to evaluate their effectiveness from a cost, process efficiency, and utility to the employee perspective. The manager acts as a subject matter expert, driving informed decisions on contract negotiations and vendor management, including ensuring ongoing adherence to contracts. This exciting and important role will be integral in setting the overall long-term benefits strategy.
Responsibilities:
· Lead a team of individual contributors by monitoring and/or setting performance goals and objectives, staffing program and project teams, and ensuring timely and effective delivery of compensation and/or benefits programs.
· Act as the subject matter expert for specific health and welfare plans including multiple self-insured medical plans, benefits for employees in California and Texas, and understand and analyze current and historical claim and engagement trends. Use that knowledge to forecast future risks and opportunities to create, recommend and support the overall benefits strategy. Act in a consultant-type role to share this knowledge with internal partners.
· Provide recommendations for plan or provision modification or expansion, or may identify a new benefit that would support the overall goals and objectives of the benefits function.
· Conduct Requests for Proposals (RFPs) for certain benefit programs annually
· Evaluates status of current programs to identify cost-savings and to ensure employee satisfaction
· Responsible for managing health and welfare plans and vendors. Ensure adherence to contracts/SOWs/PGs. Make plan and design recommendations based on performance and trends.
· Manage and review program metrics and ROI results. Make plan recommendations based on results.
· Partner with benefit team members to resolve employee escalations.
· Support M&A activity during due diligence and implementation.
· Lead other ad-hoc projects and perform other responsibilities as required.
· Apply specialized total rewards knowledge to implement programs and initiatives and contribute to program design.
· Analyzes survey, employee, and financial data to summarize findings, draw conclusions, and make recommendations about total rewards programs to project teams.
· Manage benefits projects of moderate complexity.
· Establish and maintain relationships with business or functional leaders.
· May support or project manage benefits delivery including partnering with vendors.
· Set program expectations for implementation across different businesses and/or geographies; motivates, coaches, and fosters creativity within teams.
Identify potential compliance issues, and recommends solutions
Education and Experience Required:
· First-level university degree or equivalent experience; advanced university degree preferred.
· Typically 8-10 years related experience in compensation, benefits, finance, and/or human resources.
· Typically 0-2 years supervisory experience.
Knowledge and Skills:
• Content expert in the field of benefits with a strong knowledge of administering benefits in California and Texas.
• Deep knowledge of self-insured medical plans.
• Strong financial and business acumen; general industry knowledge.
• In-depth knowledge of the legal and regulatory environment as it relates to employee benefits.
• Strong leadership and supervisory skills, including goal-setting, conflict resolution, performance management, meeting leading, budget planning, problem solving, and evaluation.
• Strong project management skills.
• Very strong communication and influence skills, including both written and verbal forms.
• Very strong quantitative and qualitative analytical skills, including competency in financial analysis.
• Ability to apply management core competencies in working with both internal clients and external partnerships.
• Ability to understand customer needs and interpret needs into workable programs.
