WHAT WE DO

Postmates is seeking a smart, adaptable Policy Counsel to join its expanding Legal & Public Policy departments. You will work principally with other public policy/government relations leads and the legal team, but will also regularly partner with Finance, Trust & Safety, Business Development, Product and Brand Marketing to advance key legislative & regulatory objectives that complement legal and government affairs strategies in an effort to advance Postmates as a leader in the independent, flexible work. You will raise awareness to build support for Postmates leadership as a technology company in this space.

YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES

The position will be responsible for tracking & advising on federal, state, and local legislative and policy issues. Candidates should be execution-oriented, have solid legal and policy backgrounds complemented by strong business acumen, superior analytical, writing, and negotiation skills. Our team operates with strong interpersonal and communication skills, the ability to operate in a fast-paced environment, and maintain a sense of humor. Background should demonstrate a strong attention to detail and experience in a role involving access to highly sensitive and confidential information; drafting and editing legislation or statutory proposals; and experience balancing relationships with public sector and private sector resources.

OUR REQUIREMENTS

• 6+ years of relevant experience (more welcome) in government, policy, labor policy and history, competition, digital marketplaces, consumer protection, and/or project management.
• Significant experience analyzing, drafting, amending, and reviewing federal, state, and local legislation and regulation.
• Significant experience dealing with elected officials in a fast-paced environment.
• Understanding of broad stakeholder engagement in highly politicized contexts, experience making strategic policy decisions, and ability to navigate competing interests and constituencies.
• Demonstrated ability to provide pragmatic, entrepreneurial advice and to properly balance risks and rewards.
• Highly motivated, efficient, and organized; able to juggle multiple projects at a time in a fast-paced environment, both collaborating as a team and working independently.
• Outstanding communication skills, both written and verbal, and ability to advocate for a position while maintaining an open-minded approach.
• Interest in expanding your practice to diverse areas of law and policy
• Good sense of humor, disdain for drama, and desire to get things done.
