The Team In this role, you’ll be a part of the Applied AI and Partnerships team. We are a core group of Software Engineers, Researchers and Program Managers within OpenAI who work to provide a best-in-class application of most advanced AI technologies to real world problems while also working to accelerate OpenAI’s research. We build partnerships to enable and accelerate the next generation of research ideas and to support OpenAI as an organization, and collaborate with partners to apply our advanced technology to real world problems.
The role The specific purpose of this unique, new role is to partner with the internal teams at OpenAI and external partners to lead multiple complex projects including commercialization of technologies, research collaborations, business negotiations, and other key organizational projects. It will involve handling key relationships with internal partners and external organizations. This opportunity will suit anyone with significant expertise in leading large, complex projects, ideally in a dynamic technology setting. This role requires robust planning to ensure projects are delivered on time and requirements are met before they are needed, combined with creativity and dynamic pragmatism.
Key responsibilities There are three axes to the responsibilities in this role: 1) enabling teams, 2) planning and leading projects, 3) understanding AGI research. - You'll define, lead and project-manage specific strategic projects from initiation to completion - You'll maintain the relationship with our external partners, ensuring their efforts are coordinated to deliver the project within agreed timeframes - You will translate any business requirements effectively into a technical build in collaboration with the technical team - You'll effectively keep internal partners involved and informed about the project status and progress - You'll build trust and the ability to thought partner with researchers and engineers - Using your knowledge of multiple project methodologies, you'll deliver bespoke approaches for the team(s) you partner with. - Identifying the need to improve ways of working, tools or processes - You'll take responsibility for end-to-end lifecycle of project deliverables and dependencies - You'll organize and optimize technical projects into clear goals, objectives, sub-projects - You'll think ahead and handle priorities and risks, anticipating issues and propose solutions - You'll display flexibility and adaptability to adjust project plans and strategies as new information is gained or as project conditions change - You'll evaluate the success of programs against their aims, goals and objectives, and share lessons across the business - You'll actively share critical information with key decision makers and partners, driving the best outcome for OpenAI - Maintain up-to-date research program information - Become a trusted advisor: Know enough about any given project’s problem area to have an informed opinion and be able to influence decisions. - Working with cross functional teams across OpenAI and Microsoft to foster relationships and help ensure good project collaboration, using your technical understanding to advocate for good solutions - You’ll achieve a level of technical depth for quality planning and decision inputs - You’ll support investigations of new technology commercialization opportunities and prototyping efforts. - You’ll help ensure the forward-looking impact of applied projects are beneficial to humanity, in line with OpenAI’s mission; this could include collaborating with the policy team.
