Summary
The job requires employees to maintain cooperative and collaborative working relationships with co-workers, supervisors and the public to complete projects under tight deadlines even when there are competing requirements and changes in assignments.
The Powder/Painter will operate cone, disk, or nozzle type electrostatic painting equipment to spray negatively charged powder paint particles onto positively charged workpieces by performing the following duties.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Prepare pieces to be coated by cleaning, etching, dusting, grinding or masking.
Regulate paint flow, conveyor, and paint spraying equipment to ensure consistent application of powder paint to each piece.
Monitors and adjusts pressure gauges and valves to control paint flow to each spray station, direction and pattern of spray and to correct flaws of coating.
Conducts quality inspections looking for flaws such as runs, sags, and unpainted areas; troubleshoot and correct as needed.
Cleans paint from ceiling and walls of booth, filters, racks, conveyor hooks or grid, and from disks, cones, spray heads, and hoses.
Performs duties in a safe manner including compliance with all environmental, health and safety standards and regulations.
Determines appropriate color, finish, and type of paint in accordance with the work order.
Accurately record labor, material transactions, and quantity of product completed via bar code data entry system upon completion of your work shift or completion of the job order.
Keeps an accurate log of part numbers, quantities, colors, and due date for department use.
Maintains paint storage room and organizes paint by color and manufacture. Participates in the ordering of supplies.
Painted pieces conform to specifications in accordance with the work order and/or as instructed.
Education and Experience
High school diploma or G.E.D.
1-2 years of experience in related field preferred but not required
2 years of experience in a light industrial or manufacturing environment required
2 years of professional experience following health, safety and environmental regulations related to hazardous materials preferred
Physical Requirements
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, and walk; use hands to handle, or feel; to reach with hands and arms; and to talk and hear. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus to recognize work/product defects. The employee must be able to regularly lift up to 15 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
Work Environment
Work is usually performed in a typical industrial/manufacturing environment subject to many interruptions requiring good safety practices to be followed at all times. The employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts, risk of electrical shock, and vibration. The employee may be exposed to fumes, airborne particles, occasionally exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals. The employee may be exposed to extreme heat. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Personal protection equipment is available to the employee and should be worn at all times.
