The Senior Business Analyst (BA) for the Legal, Global Security and Compliance IT Client Services team is accountable for providing support to internal business partners (the “Business”) by enabling information technologies to meet business requirements and strategic goals. The BA must have strong business acumen and understand business-specific solutions as well as have a good working knowledge of general and enterprise technology solutions in use at our company. The BA must be able to anticipate and influence the needs of the Business and is responsible for the development of business use cases to support technology investments which can involve active demand management and facilitation of trade-off decisions. The BA must understand the current portfolio of technology, including suitability and lifecycle status of solutions. The BA is responsible for gathering business requirement specifications and engaging with the appropriate solutions delivery team to meet these requirements. The BA will also ensure appropriate validation per our company's System Development Lifecycle (SDLC) and other corporate policies. They must be able to address or re-direct ad-hoc support requests, facilitate prioritization discussions with the Business, and facilitate discussions with support teams (including 3rd party vendors).

This is a business-client-facing role with a high level of Business interaction and a strong customer service mindset is imperative. They must possess change management skills and be strong in developing and articulating the case for change, including being able to speak in business terms. The BA must maintain awareness of industry trends and of the focus of partner groups across the enterprise to identify opportunities. The BA must be able to work independently with a clear understanding of the boundaries of the role, both with the business and with other IT functions.

Primary activities include, but are not limited to:

  • Reporting to the Client Services Leader, the Business Analyst (BA) is responsible for enabling the business to maximize its technology investment to realize business outcomes.
  • Support the Client Services Leader in relationship and demand management with the Business
  • Receive and appropriately respond to service requests, questions, etc., by business clients
  • Document current and future state business process and information flow map
  • Identify key performance indicators for business processes and develop appropriate process measures and metrics
  • Is a subject matter expert as it relates to client business processes and the current business environment in which they operate, and initiate improvements, including the ability to perform root cause analysis to identify current state process inefficiencies
  • Once the need for a solution is identified:
    • Develop qualitative and quantitative business cases for process improvement and automation initiatives
    • Develop detailed requirements specification from high level business concepts
    • Develop solution alternatives for business requirements and ensure alignment with IT Architecture
    • Lead or oversee the validation activities for solutions across all phases of the company SLC
    • Participate in business assessment reviews and walk-throughs for complex projects
    • Apply effective risk management techniques
    • Plan for benefits and how they will be measured, including development and tracking of benefits realization plans as appropriate
  • Understand and be able to navigate our company's IT functions, including engagement of solution delivery and other services
  • Ensure business continuity, via properly addressing issues that affect running the business day-to-day and as new solutions are deployed
  • Network with other BAs (formally and/or informally) to establish best practices
  • Execute basic project management for local or small projects that do not require a Project Manager

Education Minimum Requirements

  • A Bachelor's Degree is required. Concentration in Engineering, Sciences, Information Systems or related field preferred.

Required Experience and Skills

  • Minimum 5 years working as an IT Business or Technical Analyst
  • Business proficiency of the English language, with excellent verbal and written communication skills and ability to communicate at multiple levels within the organization
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of virtual teams in a fast-paced environment
  • Experience with SDLC or equivalent system lifecycle approaches, including authoring required documentation
  • Demonstrated requirements-gathering skills through development of use cases and other methods and skills used in business analysis such as negotiation, decision making / trade-off analysis, and problem-solving skills
  • Process mapping experience

Preferred Experience and Skills

  • Demonstrated initiative and ability to work on projects with minimal oversight
  • Familiarity with implementation of information systems supporting legal, global security, and/or compliance management is an advantage
  • Proven customer-oriented focus and commitment to high levels of customer service
  • Ability to manage through complexity and ambiguity along with competing priorities
  • Change Management experience
  • Experience managing contractors
  • Ability to understand and align IT architecture with business solutions
  • Ability to develop and articulate a plan of action, whether in support of strategy development or planning a roadmap. This plan must be clear, compelling and understandable, and flow in a logical fashion with supporting rationale as appropriate.
  • Facilitation / workshop management skills
  • Demonstrated skills in risk-based approaches, including ability to facilitate a robust risk analysis
