Lyft’s engineering team is growing rapidly, and we are looking for engineering managers to help us scale. Our engineers are smart, flexible, and love solving difficult challenges. They look to their managers for organizational transparency, career development, mentorship, and honest feedback. They move fast and ship code to production continuously, relying on their leadership to increase productivity by removing obstacles and keeping processes lean. Our engineering managers are people with varying technical backgrounds and interests -- some are involved in the technical details of their team and others provide general technical direction and oversight. Privacy Engineering team builds and operates systems that pioneer privacy excellence and honor user trust. Team owns business critical systems that enable Lyft to manage and protect customer data, as well as provide Lyft’s customers (Drivers and Riders) with the tools to exercise their privacy rights, such as the ability to export and delete their personal data. Examples of systems that the team builds and operates:

User Privacy Rights

  • Provide Lyft’s customers with web experiences to exercise their privacy rights (export and delete their data) as provided by the CCPA legislation
  • Foundational backend infrastructure that powers the data export and delete capabilities for customers. Systems that interface with thousands of underlying microservices and datasets

Data Management

  • Data inventory system that tells us what, where, and the how data is used
  • Automated internal privacy compliance audit mechanism to identify, report, and alert non-compliant data storage and retention
  • End-to-end integration data flow system and processes

Responsibilities:

  • Drive the Privacy Engineering team's vision, technical strategy, and roadmap
  • Work closely with Security and Privacy leaders to help define and align goals to company-wide initiatives
  • Lead a team of talented engineers who love to ship code and tackle complex privacy and security engineering problems
  • Mentor and guide the professional and technical development of your team members
  • Instill a spirit of excellence and continuous improvement in the team’s code, architecture, and processes
  • Help drive architecture reviews and large cross-company privacy initiatives in close partnership with Privacy Analyst team
  • Help your team build strong cross-functional relationships across the company, including Data, Infrastructure, Product, Legal, and Support
  • Work closely with the Lyft recruiting team to hire high potential candidates from diverse backgrounds

Experience:

  • You have a technical background and are able to contribute to planning and design discussions
  • You are steadfastly focused on your customers, whether they are drivers, passengers, or other Lyft employees
  • You have experience leading a team of engineers and guiding them through their career development
  • You believe in building both teams and products that scale
  • You enjoy working in a collaborative environment, and you’re committed to driving projects to completion creatively
  • You can motivate and instill a strong sense of ownership in your team
  • You have experience guiding teams through planning, prioritization, and execution of work
  • You think ahead and build for the future
  • You have a passion for user privacy (prior Privacy or Security experience a plus)
