As Linux Systems & Automation Engineer with Managed Services at Ellucian you will be key contributor to planning, analysis, coordination, support and maintenance of our ERP systems Ellucian Banner and all components of the Unified Digital Campus (UDC) technologies. The Linux SME will work collaboratively with multiple platform and business teams in overall support of the environment. This role will also assist in the design and support of key business projects. Key responsibilities include driving the best technical solution across multiple Ellucian initiatives. The Systems Engineer must have a proven track record managing technical initiatives, and the ability to work closely with different business groups, both onshore and off. The Systems Engineer should be well versed in multiple technologies and experience managing large enterprises. The Systems Engineer will be key in driving the Ellucian Managed Services business objectives forward. This position’s will also carry out some day-to-day server operations, resolving customer issues for our Linux customers.

Responsibilities include :

• • Planning, installing, configuring, supporting, and optimizing systems (UNIX and Linux) with a primary Focus on Linux
  • Designing and implementing system to system interconnectivity with high availability and fault tolerance, as well as Domain authentication and various services
  • Perform periodic maintenance / patching as required
  • The successful candidate will work on high impact enterprise wide projects ,and will have responsibility for reporting and metrics related to services and projects in the Systems space
  • Participate in monthly compliance reporting and management of systems
  • Experience with cloud technologies including building, maintaining and migrating workloads from an on-prem infrastructure to a cloud infrastructure
  • Experience with Puppet, including general troubleshooting and writing/implementing modules
  • Installation, configuration, maintenance, and trouble-shooting Linux/UNIX systems.
  • Utilize VMware skills to setup manage and troubleshoot VMware installation.
  • Perform diagnostics, resolve problems, escalate problems to vendors as required, work with other group members, and take appropriate actions to assure appropriate and prompt solutions to system, application, and customer problems.
  • Develop and implement the backup and recovery methods for supported environments.
  • install, configure, maintain, document, troubleshoot and upgrade hardware, firmware, peripherals, operating systems, and applications as required.
  • Provide recommendations regarding hardware and software acquisition, prepare/maintain documentation (both operational and troubleshooting) on systems/services/applications.
  • Proactively monitor and optimize system performance using tuning & optimization methods.
  • Technical adviser to provide detailed planning information to project coordinators to assist in planning of service requests, implementation steps, corrective actions, upgrade recommendations and optimization steps for Linux and potentially AIX.
  • Scripts and/or automates common repeatable tasks across the spectrum of supported products and technologies.
  • All members of the team are expected to participate in our on-call process (24/7 production support).
  • Other duties may be assigned as needed.

Required Experience, Knowledge & Skills :

• • 8+ years of experience as a System Engineer Supporting RHEL
  • 5+ years of experience operating / managing RedHat Satellite
  • 5+ years of experience with VMWare, vCenter and vSphere
  • Advanced scripting and programming experience (shell, awk, perl, python)
  • Advanced experience with Clustering solutions, preferably Veritas Cluster Server
  • Advanced experience with Performance analysis and tuning on Linux primarily & AIX.
  • Intermediate experience to Configure DNS, Mail (SMTP, IMAP, POP), and FTP etc. services.
  • Familiarity with open source tools, monitoring systems, hardware troubleshooting, tracking, resolution, and routine maintenance with security updates
  • Working knowledge of TCP/IP networking and network topologies. Intermediate knowledge of systems monitoring, alerting, reporting and trending.
  • Experience organizing, assembling and leading teams from multiple IT groups
  • Demonstrated initiative, flexibility and ability to concurrently manage multiple deadline-driven tasks and projects; self-starter
  • Ability to work in team setting as well as independently.
  • Experience working with both offshore and remote teams.
  • Knowledge of Security requirements
  • Ability to adapt and learn / take on new responsibilities and challenges.
  • Good communication skills with both technical and management teams
  • Must be fluent in English

Desired Ellucian Product Experience :

• • LDAP Experience
  • Single Sign-on Configuration/Support (SSO) including CAS and SAML2 protocols

Preferred Experience & Knowledge :

• • A strong preference for experience in managing both Linux and Unix environments. Strong troubleshooting and analysis skills
  • Experience in the developing server automation solutions, including automated builds, server maintenance and run-book automation.
  • Experience supporting multiple hardware platforms, preferably Cisco UCS and HP
  • Experience with various Networking technologies, Infoblox, DNS, DHCP, Firewalls and Load Balancers
  • Experience with Databases (Oracle, DB2 & SQL server).
  • Experience with Couchbase, Hadoop, Mongo DB
  • Experience with various storage management solutions, HP and EMC preferred
  • Knowledge of network monitoring and tools
  • Experience with Ansible
  • RedHat Certified Engineer (RHCE)
  • RedHat Certified Architect (RHCA)
  • Must be self-motivated, self-driven, and able to work with minimal supervision.

  • Systems Administrator certification for one or more: Unix/BSD/Linux. Microsoft certifications such as MCSE/MCITP.

  • Security certifications such as a CISSP.
  • Setup and usage of network and systems monitoring and trending.
  • Project management or team leadership
