The Reliability Engineering organization is integral to ensuring the overall health of Dropbox’s systems. Our organization is deeply engrained throughout Dropbox Engineering and leads cross-functional complexities to safeguard our customer experience.

We’re looking for a seasoned engineering leader whose combined depth in business sense and breadth in operational excellence will lead our reliability efforts! As a Director of Engineering, you will lead Reliability Engineers across Dropbox Engineering. You will be responsible for optimizing and building systems while also leading complexities across organizations.

Our Ideal candidate has...

  • Proven track record of operationalizing Incident Management
  • Experience in connecting customer experience with reliability
  • Experience in reducing toil to unlock efficiency and self-sustaining operations
  • Experience in balancing a portfolio of short term and long term investments

Responsibilities

  • Functional leader of reliability engineering
  • Own reliability end to end, from the Dropbox edge clients on Desktop, Web, Mobile to the backend server side.
  • Accountable for incident response processes and frameworks for Dropbox
  • Lead the team in balancing between urgency and excellence through clear, repeatable engineering processes
  • Build and lead an elite team of managers and engineers capable of scaling with Dropbox
  • Build and lead an organization with customer focus, world class quality, effective communication, proactive, fast paced solutions, quick and constructive resolutions of conflicts, and a “no barriers” mentality
  • Manages portions of Dropbox’s 24x7, always-available infrastructure to meet the high traffic needs, and strive to eliminate downtime and improve the manageability of its services
  • Set standards for deployments at scale, infrastructure reliability and scalability
  • Foster a healthy and collaborative culture that embodies Dropbox’s values and continue to develop Dropbox as one of the best places to work

Requirements

  • BS or MS in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical subject area or equivalent experience
  • 12+ years of engineering experience in a medium or larger software company including 4+ years managing high performance teams
  • Experience leading engineering organizations delivering customer facing products
  • Demonstrated ability to hire and grow senior leaders and managers
  • Experience creating strong technical leadership within the organization, fostering strong technical craft mastery and engineering field
  • Deep organization capabilities, especially in influence, collaboration and communication with a global multi-site engineering, product and design organizational structure
  • Large scale consumer application development and management preferred
