Description: Under the direct supervision of a Clinical Pharmacist, assists in the day to day operations within the Clinical Pharmacy Department. This position consistently supports compliance and Kaiser Permanente's Code of Conduct by adhering to federal, state and local laws and regulations, accreditation and licensure requirements and Kaiser Permanente's policies and procedures. In addition to defined technical requirements, accountable for consistently demonstrating service behaviors and principles defined by the Kaiser Permanente Service Quality Credo, the KP Mission as well as specific departmental/organizational initiatives. Also accountable for consistently demonstrating the knowledge, skills, abilities, and behaviors necessary to provide superior and culturally sensitive service to each other, to our members, and to purchasers, contracted providers and vendors.
Essential Responsibilities: Supports Drug Use Management with obtaining & programming patient reports, and other technical functions related to Drug Use Management. Performs intake, triage, and response to incoming questions to the Drug Information Service, and assists with drug information research as needed. Assists with answering & responding to member questions from kp.org 'Ask the Pharmacist' service. Assists with outreach calls to patients relating to Drug Use Management and other Clinical Pharmacy initiatives. Provides support for Formulary Management activities, including intake and processing of member and provider requests for coverage determinations, and other formulary-related requests and questions, and assists with documentation. Manages work related to new member outreach services and assists with any other new member onboarding services. Performs administration duties related to processing non-formulary drugs at external pharmacies. Supports Medication Therapy Management Program with various functions as needed. Uses discretion and good judgment in dealing with questions and problems from members, is familiar with standards of ethics governing pharmacy practice (including pharmacy state laws), and keeps pharmacist apprised of patient problems or problems in the operation of the service. Retrieves, prints, and triages all KPHC messages that require a clinical pharmacist's attention that are sent by providers and staff. Contacts delinquent patients with lab work via phone call, letter, or secure message (email). Protects the confidentiality of patient's medical and drug profile from other members and personnel. Performs other related duties supporting the clinical pharmacy work, as directed. Supports Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee activities as needed. Basic Qualifications: Experience
Minimum two (2) years of experience as a CPhT Certified Pharmacy Technician required. Education
Bachelor's degree in biology, chemistry, engineering, health science, business or computer science License, Certification, Registration
Compliance with all Virginia board of pharmacy rules and licensing requirements required. Current active CPHT certification required. (Pharmacy students are exempted from the CPHT requirement where applicable). Virginia Registered Pharmacy Technician License required. District of Columbia and Maryland technician licenses required within 120 days of hire. Additional Requirements: Experience in Clinical Pharmacy or Drug Use Management. PC application skills required, including spreadsheet, database, reporting and word processing. Ability to communicate pleasantly and effectively with members, providers and staff. Experience with computerized pharmacy systems. Knowledge of medical terminology, pharmaceutical dosage forms and nomenclature and calculations. Problem solving skills. Knowledge of the customer focused service requirements of the organization. Effective interpersonal and communication skills with patients, staff and physicians. Ability to multitask and work in a fast-paced environment. Ability to use critical thinking to make independent decisions. Preferred Qualifications: Successful completion of an accredited pharmacy technician training program preferred. Primary Location: Virginia,Springfield,Springfield Medical Center 6501 Loisdale Ct.
