Job Description

The Opportunity:

Shutterstock is looking for a back-end Software Engineer to help build new Content services for its Ingestion pipeline and Metadata management across Shutterstock's library of photo, video and audio files. You will be working with highly motivated and talented engineers on back-end services with quality, performance and scale in mind at every step of the way. Our core belief is that the customers are our number one priority so we work hard to deliver value back to them with everything we do. We believe strongly in team ownership of systems, from defining the vision of the services to prioritization of projects.

Responsibilities :

  • Contributing to all aspects of the services under the team's ownership: design, implementation, refactoring, automated testing, deployment, and uptime of the services.
  • Participating in code-review, pairing, and mentoring.
  • Improving internal team processes by keeping what's working (and throwing away what's not).
  • Collaborating on the vision of the services under the team's ownership.
  • Building the technology the right way: for us, this means simple, well-tested systems that gradually grow over time, and that provide plenty of insight into production performance.
  • Supporting systems in production (on-call rota).

Requirements :

  • 4 years relevant professional experience
  • Ability to craft simple and elegant solutions to complex problems
  • Experience designing and building highly scalable Back-end services and RESTful APIs using Java Spring Boot and Node.js
  • Understanding and experience working on distributed high-traffic systems, and preferably real-time systems and workflows with an emphasis on end-to-end speed
  • Experience building event-driven or message-driven architecture using tools like Kafka and RabbitMQ
  • Familiarity with any of the following technologies is a plus: SQL/RDBMS, Docker, Kubernetes, AWS, NoSQL (e.g. Redis), Latency/Performance testing
  • Solid software development fundamentals (Data Structures, algorithms, problem solving, OO Design, and system architecture)
  • Ability to clearly communicate to both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Solid understanding of continuous delivery, writing unit tests and automated testing
  • Analytical and conscientious

Preferred Qualifications :

  • B.Sc. or M.Sc. in Computer Science, Engineering or related experience.
