Senior Communications Lead, Product

We're looking for someone experienced and motivated to join our PR team leading product communications and based in New York. This role reports to the VP of Brand & Communications and collaborates with team members across corporate, product and international PR. Engineering, UX, Product and other internal teams decide what products we build and why we build them. As the Senior Communications Lead for Product, you'll work closely with these teams, as well as Product Marketing to bring together all of the moving parts involved in telling our product narrative, building a strategy for a launch or release or turning a partnership into a cohesive vision and story. Requirements:

• Strong background in B2B tech or product communications
• A strong strategic approach and the ability to take on complex product communications initiatives
• The ability to work with many teams and executives to build effective product messaging, simplify highly technical products and develop compelling narratives to showcase them
• The drive to be highly aligned with all product leads, understanding how they built something, why they built it, and how it will impact Shopify’s merchants
• Excellent writing, editing, speech and presentation skills
• The ability to excel in a chaotic, always changing environment
• A comprehensive understanding of the tech and business media landscape in the U.S., including: national magazines, national newspapers, broadcast, blogs, radio, trade magazines, webinars, podcasts and more

Bonus experience:

• Handling product PR or Communications at a tech company
• Spent some time working at management level at an agency with experience working with tech clients
• Familiarity with the financial services industry
• Pitching international media
• Planning and running events

Responsibilities:

• Develop, execute, analyze, and report on comprehensive targeted global communications campaigns
• Work closely with product and marketing teams to brainstorm unique story angles for feature stories
• Train and provide strategic advice and direction to company executives and spokespeople for media interviews, presentations, events and more
• Work closely with our product marketing and product teams to identify, plan, and execute communications plans to support product launches
• Ensure communications are consistent and leverage all opportunities to move Shopify's brand forward
