Job Description Thomson Reuters Corporates Customer Segment provides the platform for the next generation of Tax, Accounting and Legal products and services. We are seeking a results-oriented, highly-collaborative and effective senior leader who combines software development, operations, quality and people management experience for the position of Director of Reliability & Operations.
In this role, you will build out/work with a global team of engineers, and lead efforts to improve our infrastructure and operations to maximize reliability, observability, availability, scalability, and performance. Be a hands-on technical leader, empower your team to do good engineering work, use the right tools for the right job, be a mentor to future leaders, and embrace automation as a first-class citizen and have a clear mindset on engineering for the cloud.
The ideal candidate will have:
- A solid understanding of SDLC and IT Operations in an Agile environment.
- Strong engineering principles to build best in the industry solutions
- Experience in building and operationalizing top quality and highly platform(s) and sharable components
- Strong architecture mindset with a futuristic vision
- Solid understanding of modern technologies including big data, distributed computing, public cloud, machine learning, data science, artificial intelligence, and others
- Solid understanding and experience in leading operations & support related Release/Change Management & QA, Incident Management, TechOps, DevOps, DBAOps, SRE, and SecOps functions in both Data Center and Public Cloud Infrastructure (AWS/Azure)
- Lead staff sizing and delivery/resource forecasting.
- Manage and negotiate scope with development, product partners and stakeholders.
- An eye for process changes and optimization to be more efficient and effective, emphasizing time to market, transparency, and risk management.
- Embrace automation as the first-class citizen and break the status quo.
Organizational Effectiveness / People Skills
- Provide operational leadership by establishing the group and individual goals.
- Ensure releases and changes are well planned and executed successfully.
- Responsible for assessing and recommending improvements to the organization structure, roles, and responsibilities.
- Responsible for department and individual performance assessments and improvement plans.
- Responsible for coaching, counseling, assisting employees to develop individual career development and training plans.
- Create trust and credibility with stakeholders and customers and work with them to identify issues and opportunities.
- Remove roadblocks to delivery execution with diplomacy and a sense of urgency.
- Improve the quality of development in the organizations and promote best development practices, under the direction of management.
- Implement metrics to measure velocity and code quality to improve business value.
- Build transparency, accountability, and collaboration within the distributed team.
- Manage finances for the entire group including capital and operating expenses.
- Ability to work with partners on optimize, outsourcing, SOW and contingent work
Technical /Professional Skills & Competencies
- Migration of applications from on-prem to the public cloud through lift-and-shift and through modernizing to cloud-native.
- Experience migrating to hybrid clouds.
- Determine new, creative methods to employ teams on projects and distribute responsibilities.
- Lead design and deployment pipeline for cloud and non-cloud projects.
- Closely work with the engineering teams in adopting best practices in all aspects of design and development.
- Implement robust monitoring and logging solutions.
- Optimize applications to leverage all aspects of cloud (elasticity, logging, load balancing, blue-green deployment, etc.).
- Support applications hosted on-premise data center and public cloud.
- Provide leadership around continuous integration, continuous deployments and continuous operations and environment management.
- Building and Operationalizing the applications engineered for the cloud.
- Ability to manage legacy technologies and continue to modernize
- Experience in building platform scale technology is a bonus
Preferred Qualifications
- 10+ years of progressively responsible software engineering
- 5+ years of management of large global teams
- Experience in managing legacy technology and ability to modernize it to the latest and cutting-edge technologies
- Experience in delivering large complex enterprise applications
- Experience of public cloud (preferable AWS) in a production environment
- Experience collaborating with multiple functional/technical teams to deliver a project
- Demonstrated growth mindset, enthusiastic about learning new technologies quickly and applying the gained knowledge to address business problems
- Experience of building applications using modern technologies like big data, distributed computing, machine learning, artificial intelligence, and public cloud
- Knowledge of source control management using GIT, TFS etc and CI/CD/CO
- Broad understanding of industry trends around scaling and resiliency of core systems
- Ability to influence peers and leadership.
- Strong experience working with vendors for optimized, outsourced, SOW and contingent work
- Working with large fortune 5000 customers
- Good presentation and persuasion skills
- Experience in participating in audits like SSAE and SOC Type I and Type 2
- Focus on continuous improvement to achieve the iterative goal.
