Research Scientist, Cognitive Science

AR/VR | Redmond, WA

At Facebook Reality Labs, our goal is to explore, innovate and design novel interfaces and hardware for the next generation of virtual, augmented, and mixed reality experiences. We are looking for a skilled and motivated Research Scientist to join our team, whose mission is to create and apply scientific knowledge about the cognitive system to improve human experiences in an augmented world. Experience with a broad range of statistics and/or theoretically-driven computational models is required. The chosen candidate will work with a highly interdisciplinary team of researchers and engineers and will have access to cutting edge technology, resources, and testing facilities.

Responsibilities
  • Devise and execute research plans with inter-disciplinary collaborators to investigate and model human cognitive processes and apply that knowledge to improve interaction control systems for AR glasses
  • Devise and execute research to determine how models of cognitive processes can be used with other measures (e.g., body movements) to understand a user’s intention
  • Work collaboratively to help develop novel AR interaction systems
  • Mentor MS/PhD interns and collaborate with external academic groups to advance our research goals
Minimum Qualifications
  • PhD degree in the field of cognitive psychology, cognitive science, cognitive neuroscience, mathematical psychology, human factors or related areas
  • Experience with advanced statistical methodologies and computational modeling
  • Experience generating novel research questions that cross disciplinary boundaries and/or extend research to a new application domain
  • 2+ years of experience with scientific programming languages such as Python, R, or similar
  • Experience collaborating and communicating effectively in team settings
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working with real-world/naturalistic data
  • Experience with interdisciplinary and/or cross-cultural collaboration
  • Proven track record of achieving results, such as peer-reviewed scientific publications, published open-source software, or awards for scientific contributions (e.g., publications, presentations, grants)
