Job summary

The Red Hat Virtualization team is looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join our Virtualization Management and oVirt team in the Czech Republic or remotely in Europe. In this role, you will design and implement the infrastructure and integration solutions for containers and virtual machines (VMs), contributing to industry-leading technologies like Kubernetes, Red Hat OpenShift, and Red Hat Virtualization. You'll collaborate with multiple Red Hat engineering teams and open source communities around the world, working as part of a geographically distributed team. As a Senior Software Engineer, you'll need to be motivated and curious with passion for problem-solving, Linux technologies, and open source.

Primary job responsibilities

• Create and guide the development of new features; contribute to open source projects in Java and Python
• Become responsible for the quality of our offerings; participate in peer code reviews and continuous integration (CI) practices
• Lead technical architecture and design discussions with peers from both within the team and the community
• Coordinate with team leads, architects, and other engineers on the design and architecture of our offerings
• Work with our global customer support and partner support teams on resolving customer issues
• Work with the Quality Engineering (QE) team to ensure that projects are tested correctly
• Share the work of the team through blogs, web postings, or conference talks

Required skills

• Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent working experience
• 5+ years of experience working in Java or Python
• Ability to quickly learn new technologies with minimal guidance
• Proficient written and verbal communication skills in English

The following are considered a plus:

• Familiarity with storage, networking technologies
• Experience with open source development
• Familiarity with virtualization technologies
• Experience working in a Linux development environment
