Position Summary
- The Advanced Analytics Group (AAG) is a team of experts in primary market research, advanced analytics, data science and operations research.
- As a member of the Operations Research team, this role will support a broad range of optimization and simulation projects where geo-spatial data and analyses are core to delivering results: supply chain network design, inventory optimization, territory design, logistics, scheduling and routing
- Location Intelligence covers all aspects of spatial data, analysis, insights and decision support and extend to topics beyond Operations Research. Example applications include intelligent geo-marketing, retail site selection, retail footprint expansion, service and sales territory design. Location Intelligent data includes clients and third party data and both structured and unstructured data.
- As a key member of the “Location Intelligence” team, the candidate will help develop and deliver enhanced geo-spatial analytics tools and capabilities within Bain to support faster insights and greater value for our clients.

Responsibilities
Geo-spatial analytics support (~20% of role)
- Support geospatial mapping, analysis and visualization projects across a wide set of applications and industries: from Marketing to Supply Chain capabilities and from Retail to Manufacturing industries
- Assess geospatial data and modelling needs based on client situation and recommend best methods and tools
- Manage large data geospatial data requests and ETL in preparation for modelling
- Build and validate geospatial informed prediction and optimization models using heuristics, statistics, data science, and optimization methods
- Codify learnings, summarize and communicate insights, transfer knowledge and handover to clients
Location Intelligence team lead responsibilities (~30% of role)
- Enable other AAG and Bain staff with geospatial capabilities through training, documentation and advice
- Work with AAG and Practice leaders to evolve and manage Bain’s “location intelligence” platform (geospatial information systems, databases and products). Help coordinate vendors, software, and data source on which the platform is built
- Lead development of enhanced “Location Intelligence” capabilities across a wide range of applications. Develop apps for repeatable and faster processes. Support innovative geospatial-informed solutions in intelligent geo-marketing, retail site selection, service territory management, supply chain optimization etc.
- Stay abreast of new developments in the field
Operations Research/Supply Chain analytics responsibilities (~50% of role)
- Support Supply Chain projects where simulations, optimizations and results depend on geospatial insights, e.g. manufacturing and distribution footprint, logistics, transportation, and routing
- Manage large data projects including data requests and ETL in preparation for modelling
- Build and validate data, simulation and optimization models for manufacturing and supply chain problems and opportunities
- Stay abreast of advancements in the field. Contribute to development and enhancement of Supply Chain/Operations tools and processes
Qualifications
- Master’s degree or equivalent experience in GIS, data science, industrial engineering, or operations research. Ph.D. is a plus
- Experience working with GIS software, e.g. CARTO, QGIS, ArcGIS, Alteryx etc.
- Experience working with bigdata platforms, e.g. SPARK, BIGQuery etc.
- Familiarity with or ability to quickly learn the tools and techniques required to support supply chain analytics projects, e.g. supply chain network optimization, sales and operations planning, demand forecasting, inventory optimization, transportation optimization. Experience with Llamasoft or other supply chain supply chain analytic tools are a plus.
- Experience in combinatorial optimization modeling (particularly mixed integer programming) and heuristic algorithm development (such as genetic algorithm, simulated annealing, etc.). Experience with one or more optimization modeling languages/solvers (e.g. Gurobi, Xpress, Cplex, GAMS, AMPL, etc.).
- Experience with simulation modeling is a plus. (e.g. Anylogic, Arena, etc.)
- Basic computer programming capability (C/C++,R, python, etc.)
- Strong skill with ETL and SQL is required. Extensive database experience a plus.
- Strong abilities in problem definition and problem solving skills.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills are a must
- Ability to work well with all levels within Bain and at client
- Must be able to discuss technical issues with a non-technical audience
- Must thrive in a fast paced environment and be able to work independently
- Travel required (up to 50%)
