Defined Benefit Services provides actuarial, administration, and participant services to clients whose objective is to provide an integrated retirement plan experience to their employees and a single-provider servicing solution for all of their retirement programs. Schwab Retirement Plan Services, Inc. is a wholly-owned subsidiary of The Charles Schwab Corporation. Schwab Retirement Plan Services provides recordkeeping, administration, participant education and communication, plan design, consulting, actuarial services, and compliance testing for a total of over 900 defined contribution, defined benefit, and nonqualified retirement plans.
What you’re good at
Personal Defined Benefit (DB) Plans – Primarily responsible for preparing and delivering DB services to self-employed individuals and small businesses; handling request and questions on the customer service phone line; and responding to questions from clients and prospects related to the DB plan. Specifically, the person will:
- Develop contribution calculations and deliver minimum/maximum contribution range to clients
- Prepare plan documents, review and process new client information and data
- Communicate with clients, prospective clients and advisors via customer service phone line and email
- Maintain participant and plan data
- Prepare individual participant benefit calculations and distribution paperwork
- Draft sample communications, plan amendments and employer resolutions
- Prepare annual actuarial reporting and government forms filings (Form 5500,Schedule SB, Summary Annual Report, Annual Funding Notice, PBGC Form 1)
- Prepare government filings for plan terminations, when requested by clients (IRS Form 5310, PBGC Form 500, related attachments)
What you have

- Team player mentality, willing and able to contribute at all levels of service delivery
- Good oral and written communications skills; experience explaining retirement plan information or other complex concepts over the phone to customers and prospects
- Ability to rapidly learn broad range of skills, processes and DB subject matter
- Ability to think differently and to continuously improve the delivery of services
- Good organizational skills, shows attention to detail
- Computer skills, especially in Microsoft Office and Adobe Acrobat Pro
- Willingness to pursue ASPPA designation of QKA, or other relevant retirement plan continuing education
- Undergraduate degree in Business, Finance, Math, Actuarial Science, Accounting, or work experience in a related area preferred
