We are looking for a quantitative social scientist with experience in applied research, experimentation, survey methodology, statistical inference, regression modeling, and exploratory data analysis.
The perfect candidate will have a background in a social science, quantitative or technical field and experience working with large data sets and relational databases. You are focused on results, a self-starter, and have superior analytical, computational, and communication skills. This position is for a paid internship based in our West Hollywood, CA office.
What you’ll do:
- Inform, influence, support, and execute a research project used throughout Tinder to drive product and company decisions
- Apply your expertise in quantitative analysis and data visualization to see beyond the numbers and use those insights to optimize our product and better serve our users
- Provide general support to the Analytics team and broader organization around data, data visualization, research, and experimentation
What we’re looking for:
- Currently has, or is in the process of obtaining, a masters or PhD in statistics, political science, sociology, economics, demography, computational social sciences, public health, applied statistics, or related field
- Experience in applying at least one of the following in your research: quantitative research methods or statistical analysis, survey methodology (e.g., bias correction, sampling and design), regression modeling, causal inference with a survey outcome, behavioral data analysis
- Experience with data analysis using SQL and R and/or Python
- Experience initiating and driving research projects to completion with minimal guidance
- Experience communicating the results of analyses
Bonus points if you have:
- Experience with large data sets
- Experience with survey design
- Experience with field experiments, experimental design, missing data, and/or survey sampling
- Experience with observational causal inference (e.g., regression adjustment, matching, propensity score stratification), or quasi-experimental methods (e.g., instrumental variables, regression discontinuity, interrupted time series)
- Experience with bandit optimization, adaptive experimentation, and/or Gaussian processes
