Role Summary:

In this role, you will be expected to follow established processes and help develop new ones that meet business needs across the organization, managing issues within functional area(s) of expertise, and be involved in short-term and long-term planning, and contribute to the overall business needs. The focus of the role is development and characterization of materials and materials related processing for additive manufacturing platforms across of variety of applications.

Essential Responsibilities:

In addition, the expectation of the GE Additive Materials Behavior Engineer includes:

  • Execute, with guidance, the analysis and evaluation of assigned projects that meet business standards, practices, and procedures, and product / program requirements
  • Ability to understand metallurgy and consolidated material characteristics, particularly with respect to physical and mechanical properties (e.g., tensile, fatigue, etc.)
  • Utilize statistical methods for evaluating material capability versus established standards, during both development and production phases
  • Manage relationships with external vendors that perform material characterization testing
  • Work with design, manufacturing, and material application engineers to establish material characterization plans that meet internal and external customer needs
  • Interface with customers on recommendation and explanation of testing methods and analysis procedures
  • Evaluate and recommend selection of appropriate process equipment based on application technical and program requirements
  • Work across teams to deliver shared goals and outcomes to meet material capability targets
  • Recommend approaches to meet technical and program requirements
  • Monitor and communicate project status, business issues, and significant developments within multiple levels of the organization
  • Participate as a presenter in technical and program reviews to recommend technical outputs that drive appropriate decisions

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Science in Materials Science and Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, or related Engineering Discipline from an accredited university or college
  • Minimum 3 additional years of experience in an aerospace or related additive manufacturing position (Including Hands on experience with material processing or handling)

  • Demonstrated ability to analyze and resolve problems
  • Program management skills; ability to develop, document, market, and execute programs
  • Understand how to thrive in a dynamic team environment
  • Background in material characterization, including metallography, thermal and mechanical property testing and analysis
  • Basic understanding of Additive manufacturing process (i.e., laser powder bed, electron beam powder bed, binderjet) working knowledge and/or operation experience
