Basic Purpose:
A Shift Manager is expected to coordinate the operating team in completion of the production plan. The Shift Manager is responsible for leading the production team and accountable for safety, quality, engagement and operating results for their respective shift. Shift Managers coordinate resource requirements based on production demands, quality, material and cost. Shift Managers assure the safety of associates by monitoring, coaching and correcting unsafe behaviors and conditions. They own the Daily Safety Trigger System DMS. The Shift Manager effectively facilitates team shift connection points, coordinates communications within and across production lines. Shift Managers give clear and accurate reports to the Area Manager. They have thorough technical understanding and mastery of MSE/TPM and process control for their shift. Shift Managers are an integral part of the FMOS meetings and owns integrity of Line Event Data Systems and leads process definition to identify centerline targets and document standards. Shift Managers must effectively facilitate team meetings, communicate issues within an area, across shifts. The Shift Manager should be considered a SME around CIL, Center Lines, and Abnormality handling for their assigned area. Shift Managers are responsible for leading a shift team which supports the site in consistently meeting or exceeding safety, quality, environmental, regulatory, financial, and product supply goals. A Shift Manager is responsible for the performance of their team. This includes managing Associate performance and conducting quarterly or monthly PDP discussions with assigned associates. Shift Managers is responsible for escalating to the Area Manager and potential disciplinary actions under consideration.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
• Actively participates in daily FMOS meetings. Provides performance data for selected machines and communicates action plans and completed work effectively.
• Preparing safety trigger and ensuring all associates know the trigger level and countermeasures.
• Review any quality issues from past shift and follow up on any open actions.
• Prepare for any upcoming changeovers.
• Lead the shift transition meeting/FMOS to prioritize top issues to be addressed for next 8-12 hours.
• Coordinate appropriate resources for action plans created during shift transition meeting.
• Pull stops data for shift in preparation for the on-coming Shift Manager. Prioritize losses and identify associates needed to go over details at shift transition meeting. Provide additional feedback on top losses if applicable.
• Ensure all centerlines are checked and completed for shift.
• Coach on centerlines when associates are checking to build capability (e.g. why is a centerline out, what could cause it, how do we bring centerline back to CL).
• Work with operators to develop potential new centerlines that can drive out losses.
• Ensure all CIL activities are completed to standard.
• On the floor coaching during planned stops while operators are carrying out CIL activities.
• Assist in identifying abnormalities while cleaning and inspecting equipment. Identify root cause and establish any changes to standards.
• Assist in carrying out some CIL activities when needed, but coaching responsibilities need to take priority.
• Ensure team is working towards the planned stop criteria.
• Majority of time should be spent on the floor with operators.
• Focus needs to be on coaching and building capability, as well as removing any barriers for associates or handling requests. Will cover for breaks and operate a machine only when the business calls for it.
• Support AM Pillar and Coach AWT for the shift.
• Champion of safety and quality for shift.
• Leads root cause problem solving efforts on losses as necessary throughout the shift for the line/department.
• Works with Area Manager and team to ensure that all Line and Departmental metrics are met.
• Any other additional responsibilities as assigned.
Decision Making Authority, Recommendations and Impact:
• Coordinates labor and completes daily staffing sheet.
• Approves overtime as required and communicates to Area Manager.
• Provides input for Business Objectives for each line associate.
• Provides input to optimize production schedule.
• Insures all required Quality checks and documents are completed for each shift.
• Escalates Safety and Quality non-conformance.
• Identifies and recommends centerlines.
