Description: The Chief Resident will work as a physician faculty member and as a leader who carries out clinical care at both the outpatient IM residency office at the Medical Centers as well as at the inpatient medicine wards located at Holy Cross Hospital. The Chief Resident's main responsibilities will be that of a teacher, mentor, and leader, who will interface between the residents and program leadership, having the valuable opportunity to enhance his or her administrative and leadership skills. The Chief Resident will work with the Program and Associate Program Directors to organize and lead teaching conferences providing educational opportunities for the residents and faculty. In addition, the Chief Resident will help plan and participate in dedicated teaching and hands on training sessions for residents and participate in several key leadership committees. He or she will be in charge of the residents' overall schedules and will help orient the residents to their clinical rotations. The Chief Resident will play an active role in resident recruitment. The Chief Resident will also help run wellness activities, building and maintaining good morale and positive learning environment. Important administrative responsibilities will include ensuring compliance with ACGME program requirements such as duty hours and the coordination of resident schedules. The chief resident is a direct supervisor of the residents and the first-person residents will report to if any problems or concerns arise.
Essential Responsibilities: Participate in leadership skills development such as program and institutional committees. Provide feedback on resident performance, mentorship, advocacies to improve patient care, and help shape the future of the program. Help develop the curriculum and lead a variety of teaching activities to enhance resident education, such as didactics, academic half-day topics, conference, and others as assigned. Participate and assist residents in research and scholarly pursuits. Serve as teaching attending and site preceptor at both the inpatient and outpatient site as directed by the chiefs of service and the program director. Coordinate all resident scheduling, sick day coverage, work hour compliance, wellness activities, and resident attendance in all didactic sessions. Serve on the clinical competency committee which evaluates each residents' performance on a regular basis (every three (3) months). Serve on the internal medicine residency steering committee. Serve as a resident representative to the Graduate Medical Education Committee. Serve as a resident representative to the Program Education Committee. Basic Qualifications: Experience
Minimum three (3) years of Internal Medicine Residency Training in an ACGME-accredited program. Education
MD or DO from an accredited allopathic or osteopathic medical school. Bachelor's degree OR four (4) years of experience in a directly related field. High School Diploma or General Education Diploma required. License, Certification, Registration
Must hold a full, unrestricted license to practice medicine. Additional Requirements: Board-eligible or board-certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine. Preferred Qualifications: Strong background in curriculum development, teaching, scholarly work. Excellent leadership skills, verbal/written communication skills.
