Responsibilities

The 301 INC team is looking to collaborate with emerging food brands; to roll up our sleeves and work together to create breakthrough innovations and build successful businesses. We are seeking an Associate R&D Manager in 301 INC (to identify and solve challenging technical problems for innovation, renovation and product improvement projects, often in new-to-GMI or new-to-the-world categories. The 301 Inc Associate R&D Manager will also develop and execute technical strategies that enable 301 INC portfolio brands to deliver against their short- and medium-term business objectives (includes innovation, HMM and core growth strategies). https://www.301inc.com/

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • As needed, provide hands-on R&D support for new product launches, start-ups, due diligence assessments and other R&D led projects
  • Work with 301 INC portfolio brands to build their internal R&D capabilities, sharing and demonstrating best practices in core R&D competencies, such as formulation, scale-up, troubleshooting, quality as designed, etc.
  • Drive external connections for ideation and solution finding (suppliers, university, institutes, independent consultants, etc.)
  • Build and leverage strong internal network to facilitate knowledge sharing between 301 INC portfolio brands and GMI experts (Sourcing, Supply Chain, Quality, Nutrition, Regulatory, and Legal)
  • Effectively model entrepreneurial behaviors, adapting GMI best practices to fit the scale, speed and resources of 301 INC portfolio brands
  • Champion both food and human safety in development work with 301 INC partner brands
  • Act as Technical Team Leader or Manager for the 301 INC R&D team – there is an opportunity to directly manage employees but is not required

Qualifications

  • B.S. degree in Engineering, Food Science or related field
  • 7+ years experience in food innovation, technology, new product development, and/or research & development
  • Position will require travel (15%)
  • Ability to work collaboratively to drive results
  • Solid critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Technical excellence and fundamental scientific understanding
  • Strong networking and interpersonal skills
  • Thrives in ambiguity, ability to pivot quickly
  • Ability to work both internally and externally

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience across a range of GMI processes, product systems & ingredients is a strong positive (Dairy experience is a preferred but not required)
  • Experience in both applications and technical teams desired but not required
  • Technical curiosity & a passion for science and learning
  • Comfort stretching outside of his/her current expertise
  • Proven coaching and mentoring abilities that foster a culture of technical learning
  • Embraces working differently, high comfort in unregimented environments
