Across our 8 beautifully designed urban campuses and our growing Online campus, we offer a unique combination of education, workspace and networking.We are growing our Online team at Galvanize and have an immediate need for a Cohort Lead. The Cohort Lead is ultimately accountable for the success of each cohort, maintaining accountability for academic goals and student experience while also providing world-class customer service and expectation management to Data Science Immersive students. We are looking for a talented leader to drive the student experience and achieve cohort success as we build out our first-ever online Data Science immersive.
  • This is a non-technical role; though comfort with Github, Salesforce, and Asana is a plus, candidates do not need any specialized expertise in data science or programming in order to succeed.
  • This role can be done 100% remotely during the hours of 9am-6:30pm Pacific Time. Hires must reside in Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Maryland, Massachusetts, Missouri, Montana, New Jersey, New York, Oregon, South Carolina, Texas, Virginia, Washington, or Wisconsin.
The ideal candidate is skilled at ensuring academic achievement, personal, emotional and social development, and career preparation so that students become productive, well-adjusted, highly marketable data science. The role spends the majority of time in direct service to and contact with students, followed by precise administrative support to ensure smooth delivery. The Cohort Lead’s duties are focused on overall student experience in the program through oversight and management of curriculum delivery, individual student planning and coaching, group dynamics management, and responsive service. Additionally, the Cohort Lead will handle coordination duties and own the systemization of class delivery, ensuring that the remote immersive product thrives in harmony with the larger Galvanize organization. To succeed in this role, you will:Be a knowledgeable, primary student point-of-contact: Understand how the program works in detail (even though the subject matter may be technical and foreign to you) and the role of different players. Be well versed in program delivery approaches and best practices. Deliver the program & manage the experience: Manage student experience and program success through class-wide, small group, and individual reflection sessions. Stay abreast of the perceptions and feelings and needs of the class. Handle difficult issues such as impostor syndrome, group conflicts, and program rules/expectations. Accountable for unconditional success for all metrics pertaining to the cohort, including placement rate, satisfaction ratings, starting salary, health and happiness of students. Responsible for the health of academic and cultural student pipeline from admissions through job placement.Identify student success issues & risks: Understand what drives 5-star program reviews, strong academic results and successful job placement. Maintain accurate, deep, real-time data on how students are faring across these dimensions, working with other members of the instruction team as required. Problem-solve & drive student success: Suss out the reasons behind student success issues / risks. Determine remedial solutions and create, rollout & manage associated action plans. Deliver (often difficult) feedback to students that improve outcomes and result in positive sentiment. Serve as support and safety net for instructional team and elevate issues appropriately. Utilize keen organizational skills and attention to detail: Schedule and coordinate all daily student activities. Organize and manage student efforts around special projects. Triage requests and suggestions coming into the team inbox. Design systems to streamline and automate routine tasks. Provide world class customer service. Build out the DSI Online Product: Source feedback and improvements and project manage systems to improve the product, Communicate with the rest of the company to support org-wide systems, and contribute creative solutions to guarantee bottom-line academic, employment, customer satisfaction, and sustained enrollment outcomes. QualificationsThe ideal candidate is:
  • A strong leader & people person: Able to “own the room” and establish a strong presence in a group setting, facilitate conversation, and exercise solid judgement.
  • An effective verbal communicator: Able to guide expectations, provide pushback for unreasonable requests in a ‘tough-but-fair’ manner, and guide student attitudes toward growth mindsets.
  • An empathetic listener: Able to exercise active listening and guide students towards deeper understandings of their experiences.
  • A versatile writer: Able to craft clear, succinct, tactful, effective and situationally appropriate writing styles (e.g. instructional emails, discussion followups, process documentation, etc.)
  • A strong well-being & emotional support coach: Able to promote co-curricular student development of interpersonal and professional skills.
  • Data-driven: Able to distinguish between intuition and hard data, to ultimately utilize data analysis to make and execute decisions. Utilizes a data-driven approach to problem solving, iteration, and improvement.
  • Passionate about teaching: Excited by the prospect of helping our team educate the next generation of data scientists!
  • Prior professional experience in roles such as teacher, facilitator, counselor, personal coach, personal trainer, etc., utilizing the above skills sets is a strong asset but not required. Experience with Data Science or Applied Math/Statistics is a bonus but not required.
  • Available to start full-time on or before August 12
  • Availability to work business hours on Pacific Time regardless of location.
