Grants Development Associate

Job Description

The Grants Development Associate is a new role in the ACLU of Maryland’s (ACLU) Development Department, based in our Baltimore office. The Development Department currently operates as a small shop and works to secure funding to support various ACLU priorities including justice system reform, equity in public education, individual autonomy & government accountability, fair voting rights, and immigrants’ rights, among others.

The Grants Development Associate will provide administrative support to the Development Department and will be an integral part of the internal work of the team.

They will serve as the grant writing and research enthusiast for the organization, partnering with the Development Director and program staff to ensure preparation of high-quality funding proposals and reports.

They have the skills and confidence to work both collaboratively and independently, with the ability to manage their time effectively. They enjoy connecting the dots and creating new opportunities to secure financial support for the ACLU’s important work. They are knowledgeable about past and present civil rights issues, with a demonstrated commitment to advancing racial equity personally and professionally. Roles and Responsibilities

Development Department Administration

• Enter gifts, process monthly credit card donations, and prepare acknowledgement letters and bank deposits;
• Work within Salesforce to enter portfolio tracking and prospect research information, produce reports, and ensure accuracy of donor records;
• Apply for and represent the ACLU of Maryland at workplace giving fairs;
• Coordinate logistics for and represent the ACLU of Maryland at occasional events;
• Answer Development Department inquiries by phone and/or email;
• Work in collaboration with the Development Director to produce and annually update a Development Department policies and procedures handbook;
• Provide individual giving support to the Development Director, as requested;
• Provide administrative support to the Development Committee on the Board of Directors, as needed.

Grant-Writing and Prospect Research

• Partner with staff to research, write, and submit creative and compelling grant proposals;
• Partner with staff to develop and transform ideas into successful grant proposals, including community-based initiatives to enhance community capacity;
• Schedule and track grant activities and alert program staff to upcoming report and proposal deadlines;
• Ensure compliance with funder agreements and on-time submission of deliverables;
• Conduct research and compile data on potential funding sources;
• Maintain contact and relationships with external agencies and respond to inquiries, as necessary.
  

Qualifications

• Experience using donor databases required, preferably Salesforce;
• Experience managing logistics for events required;
• Three to five years of experience identifying funding sources and writing successful foundation grant proposals for non-profit organizations is preferred;
• Experience interacting with donors preferred;
• Must highly value collaboration and be able to perform detail-oriented work;
• A demonstrated commitment to racial equity, dismantling white supremacy, and incorporating a structural power analysis into work. Must have knowledge and understanding of how power is manifested in matters of race, ethnicity, age, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, religion, ability and socio-economic circumstances;
• Ability to think strategically, develop effective solutions, and take initiative;
• Dependable, punctual, and flexible.
  

Compensation and Benefits

Salary $52,000 to $57,000 depending on experience. Excellent benefits include two weeks paid vacation at time of hire (increasing to three weeks after one year, and four weeks after five years); 12 office holidays; 12 paid sick days; six weeks paid parental leave; medical and dental insurance for staff members, their dependents and spouse/domestic partner; life and long-term disability insurance; 401(k) plan with employer match; and direct exposure to cutting-edge civil liberties and civil rights work. This position is non-exempt from overtime under the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act and is in the bargaining unit represented by OPEIU Local 2.

Deadline/Start Date
