Experience Designer

Portland, Oregon

The Experience Designer is instrumental in devising useful, usable, and delightful user experiences. Experience Designers work to improve the user’s journey, backed by robust research, on projects that contribute towards Cambia’s Cause: to serve as the catalyst to transform health care, and create a person-focused and economically sustainable health care system. Undaunted by ambiguity and change, this experienced contributor finds ways to move projects forward, bringing inspiration and brilliance to every project and delivering their best work every time.

The Digital Solutions UX team creates user-centered experiences and includes researchers, experience designers, service designers and visual designers. The team works on a variety of projects from high-level, long-term conceptual work to quick-turn digital projects. This team consists of a tightly knit group of individuals with strong communication skills and the ability to think beyond the obvious. Always willing to roll up sleeves and get to work, the Experience Designer thinks strategically in support of usability best practices and cross-pollinates with colleagues to deliver elevated experiences that challenge the status quo, with the user always in mind.

Responsibilities & Requirements

  • Demonstrates UX experience through a strong portfolio which details how problems were solved by highlighting steps taken throughout projects.
  • Fluent in best practices and practical knowledge of user-centered design methodologies and usability principles.
  • Able to create detailed specifications, user flows, wireframes, mockups/prototypes, and style guides in an iterative environment.
  • Proficient in a variety of design tools. (Sketch, InVision, Photoshop, Illustrator, Lucid Chart, etc.)
  • Has background in creating experiences that meet cross-device compatibility targets and responsive design standards. A good understanding of the technical implications of design, especially for mobile. Constructs dynamic, interactive designs that are technically feasible and prudent.
  • Intimately familiar with the design process and capable of justifying design approaches with strong backing.
  • Has a keen eye for details and strong proofing skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams (marketing, analysts, producers, developers, etc.) including the ability to broker differences and resolve conflict in a fast-paced environment, adapting quickly and effectively with regard to changing requirements.
  • Demonstrates excellent communication, presentation, interpersonal and analytical skills including the ability to communicate complex, interactive design concepts clearly and persuasively across different audiences and varying levels of the organization.
  • Front-end development knowledge including HTML/CSS and responsive frameworks a plus.
  • Visual design skills a plus.

Additional Minimum Requirements for mid-level:

  • Able to contribute to and support senior staff on complex and simple projects, supports the greater strategy of the team.
  • Demonstrates design expertise and advanced skills in their respective skillset.
  • Ability to scope projects accurately and prioritize work items appropriately.
  • Ability to think both tactically and strategically, including high levels of self-direction, innovation and imagination.

Normally to be proficient in the competencies listed above:

  • Experience Designer would have a bachelor’s degree in UX/UI/Experience Design or related field and 3+ years of experience in UX design or equivalent combination of education and experience.
