Charles Schwab Trust Company delivers a focused set of trust services that are designed by an investment company for investors and their advisors to complement Schwab’s overall wealth management capabilities. Our team of client-focused trust professionals partners with clients and their advisors to ensure that clients’ legacies are carried forward with the expertise, unbiased decision-making, and fiduciary responsibility imbued in Schwab’s values. The Trust Services Consultant is a key member of our growing trust organization and is responsible for collaborating with internal and external partners to identify, develop and close new business opportunities and ensure exceptional client and partner experiences that lead to qualified referrals from clients and centers of influence.
What you’re good at
- Work directly with internal and external partners to identify, develop and close new trust business and uncover opportunities to assist clients with additional assets
- Collaborate with internal partners (e.g. Wealth Strategists, Schwab Charitable) to deliver presentations to clients and partners explaining the benefits of using a corporate trustee and the trust services Schwab provides
- Partner and collaborate with teammates, partners, advisors, attorneys, and clients to deliver a superior, white-glove experience that leads to qualified referrals from clients and centers of influence (e.g. attorneys and CPAs)
- Review trust agreements, court documents, and asset statements to assess acceptability of trust provisions and assets, profitability, and potential for risk in serving as trustee
- Effectively communicate and follow-up with partners, advisors, attorneys and clients
- Coordinate with attorneys (local and otherwise) to accomplish judicial and non-judicial processes as necessary to ensure that trusts align with Schwab’s requirements and applicable trust law
- Mentor junior members of the team
- Proactively participate and provide input into continuous improvement to procedures and processes to align with a “Through Client’s Eyes” perspective consistent with Schwab’s client-first culture
- Follow state and federal banking regulations and internal policies and procedures regarding asset eligibility, OFAC, AML, and Customer Identification Program
- Actively participate in special projects and initiatives in the spirit of innovation, collaboration, and community
What you have
- Strong knowledge of trust principles and 5+ years of practical experience working with personal trusts; experience with trusts governed by Nevada or Delaware law preferred
- Consultative business development experience or equivalent client-facing legal experience
- Demonstrated ability to develop and champion internal and external partnerships to generate qualified referrals
- JD with relevant coursework or CTFA required; may consider completion of CTFA within one year as condition of employment for highly qualified candidates
- Highly organized professional with the ability to take ownership, prioritize, handle and execute multiple responsibilities
- Aptitude for distilling legal information into simple terms to deliver engaging educational presentations; equally adept at substantive trust conversations with estate planning attorneys
- Energetic and highly motivated self-starter with problem-solving mindset
- Reciprocal teammate with contagiously positive, outgoing, can-do attitude
- Availability to travel occasionally
