Job Description
Role Summary:
The Lead Data Engineer will design, build, and validate a sensor data processing and storage pipeline for the safety monitoring and certification of aircraft engines. Primary goals include engine and facility asset protection, reducing test cost, and increased data availability. Data pipeline components will include data acquisition, streaming and offline execution of physics and machine learning models, real-time visualization, data storage, and off-line data queries.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Develop, validate, and implement new data pipelines
- Contribute to the development of test cell architecture
- Interface with Engineering, IT and operations teams for problem resolution
- Liaise with data acquisition, data science and engineering teams to ensure data availability and data processing capability
- Build and configure data processing and storage systems
- Assist data science organizations in building analytic development tools.
- Drive continuous process improvement and best practices
- Execute with limited guidance the development data processing tools
- Formulate and implement plans to achieve technical requirements, schedules and contract commitments
- Develop action plans to anticipate and respond to problems
- Provide technical guidance to other personnel and assigned teams
- Lead or participate in organizational efforts in assigned projects and/or tasks
- Participate as a presenter or reviewer in technical reviews
Qualifications/Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering or Computer Sciences or equivalent program from an accredited university or college
- A minimum of 4 years of experience in an Engineering position
- Software development skills and Linux experience required
Desired Characteristics:
- Experience with message queuing/streaming technologies (e.g. Apache Kafka, Apache Pulsar, etc.), Hadoop technologies, stream processing technologies(e.g. Apache Spark, Apache Flink), and NoSql database technologies (e.g. Apache Cassandra) is very strongly desired.
- Experience using Python, C/C++ and Java
- Good understanding of the Agile Methodology
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Strong interpersonal and leadership skills
- Strong influencing skills; ability to influence others and lead small teams
- Lead initiatives of moderate scope and impact
- Ability to coordinate several projects simultaneously
- Effective problem identification and solution skills
- Proven analytical and organizational ability
- Understanding of computing platforms and digital systems
- Knowledge of signal processing and data acquisition
- Familiar with COTS hardware and software solutions and ability to integrate those solutions into a test environment
- Strong project management skills
- Strong skills in configuration management
