The Rackspace Solutions and Services (RSS) Product Engineering team is looking for an experienced DevOps Engineer to help design and implement Rackspace’s private cloud offerings, based on open source technologies. The selected candidate will have the opportunity to work along side with the Offering Management and Service Delivery teams to ensure that Rackspace’s private cloud offerings are well designed, manageable, supportable and provide our customers with an awesome experience.
The specific responsibilities and qualifications are listed below.
Responsibilities
• Collaborates with Product Architects, Offering Management and Service Delivery to design, enhance or optimize and validate reference architectures for private cloud offerings, based on the open source technologies such as OpenStack, Kubernetes, Prometheus, etc...
• Creates proofs of concept for validation, as necessary, to ensure that product features are well integrated for an awesome experience.
• Ensures that the supported reference architectures are sufficiently and efficiently integrated with Rackspace’s foundation services (device inventories, network management, fleet management, monitoring, etc...) and are manageable and supportable.
• Collaborates with appropriate Rackspace teams to gather requirements and ensure that detailed specifications for the reference architectures have been identified.
• Evaluates available technologies for possible integration to enhance the offerings, as envisioned by Offering Management.
•Ensures that Rackspace’s private cloud management infrastructure is continually enhanced with modern architectural design, to enable efficient, effective and economical management of our customers’ private clouds.
• Ensures that the private cloud management infrastructure and the supported reference architectures adhere to Rackspace’s security and compliance framework.
• Automates all necessary tasks with code, following modern software development best practices.
• Assists Service Delivery with troubleshooting difficult deployment and operational issues. Work to ensure that issues are automated away.
• Participates in engineering escalations, postmortems and root cause analysis.
• Communicates and write wiki articles to effectively convey and document complex technical concepts and processes, as necessary.
Requirements & Qualification
• BS/MS in Computer Science or equivalent experience
• 5+ years of experience in system design and architecture
• 5+ years of experience in designing and writing software on Linux platform. Preferably experienced in Python and Go.
• 5+ years of experience as a Linux Administrator with advance administration knowledge of Ubuntu and Red Hat.
• Good working knowledge of OpenStack and Kubernetes
• Proficient in configuration management and provisioning tools such as Ansible and Helm.
• Excellent scripting skill, using bash or other common Linux scripting languages.
• Good working knowledge of Internet, operating system and application security fundamentals.
• Good working knowledge of common platforms and tools such as Apache, MySQL/Postgres, Nginx
• Good working knowledge of Internet technologies, including: TCP/IP, HTTP, FTP, SSH, DHCP and DNS.
• Good working knowledge of networking, including routing, switching, firewall, etc.
• Familiar with data center networking architecture
• Good working knowledge of cloud management platforms such as OpenStack, CloudStack or vCloud.
• Experienced with virtualization, preferably on multiple hypervisor platforms
• Experienced with working in open source communities.
• Good working knowledge of server less architecture and technologies
• Experienced in using modern CI platforms such as CircleCI, GitLab, DroneCI, etc...
• Excellent troubleshooting skill, being able to navigate in through complex service topology and enterprise network to track down issues
• Comfortable with collaborating in open communication and remote team settings.
• Experienced in the collaboration with multiple functional areas, including, Product/Project Management and Operations/Support Management
• Comfortable with navigating through ambiguous or fast changing work environment and executing on high level objectives with minimal or no guidance
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
