Job Title: Buyer/Planner

Job Summary
This Buyer/Planner is responsible for planning and managing the inventory and supply of selected parts and commodities in a timely and efficient manner. Duties include production scheduling, ECN implementation, purchase order management, supplier performance, cost tracking, and inventory turn performance. The Buyer/Planner must be able to identify and report operational deficiencies. This position requires teamwork, customer focus, and project management skills. A personal sense of urgency and responsibility is required. This position reports to the Product Operations Manager.
Primary Duties - Utilize MRP for production scheduling, ECN implementation, and Customer Order commitments. Generate Purchase Orders to Trimble Suppliers and manage open Purchase Orders for on-time deliveries per the commitment.
- Follow through on parts to ensure arrival and stocking. Execute delivery pull-ins, push-outs or cancellations per MRP requirements.
- Resolve discrepancies with logistics, pricing and accounting issues with Supplier. Lead effort to resolve quality issues. Coordinate the return of the material to the Supplier if appropriate.
- Drive Suppliers to meet the delivery and quality goals by influencing them to develop sound corrective action plans for improvement. Develop a supply chain that minimizes inventory while maintaining product availability.
- Maintain adequate inventories of purchased and manufactured material to satisfy the company Master Production Schedule (MPS). Manage inventories to assure the best allocation of company resources to achieve MPS and minimize obsolete inventory. Measure and report vendor performance.
- Ensure Trimble is obtaining the lowest possible cost in the market. Develop and execute price reduction plans meeting department goals. Make recommendations on the appropriate supply chain to minimize costs.
- Contribute to Process Improvement within the Trimble organization. Execute inventory plan in strategic alignment with the overall business plan and focus of the company.
- Interfaces with internal customers to define project material requirements well in advance of need, and establish demand/create requisitions on the database system.
- Ensures all materials needed to support each manufacturing batch are ordered at the right time, in the right quantities, at the agreed-upon price, and within established specifications.
- Maintains integrity of material requirements planning (MRP) database, by insuring accuracy of forecast/demand load, maintenance of purchase orders, work orders, and non-conforming material.
- Prepares, maintains, and presents various status reports and reports problems or exceptions to plan.
Key Organizational Interfaces - Routinely interfaces with Quality, R&D, Manufacturing, Program Management, SCM, Commodity Management, and Director of Product Operations, insuring Business Area supply chain needs are met.
- Must be able to work well with Accounting on payables issues, Receiving, Planning and Production on delivery issues, Engineering, and Product Operations on new product issues, Quality on quality issues.
Characteristics/Skills- Fundamental understanding of contract elements. Demonstrated success in contract creation and negotiations.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills and demonstrated ability to successfully interface within a multi-functional organization.
- Proficiency with spreadsheets, word processing, and communication software.
- Knowledge of supply chain management principles, practices, and systems.
- Ability to understand and execute MRP or material requisitions.
- Ability to train and provide direction to coworkers.
- Ability to work in a team structured, fast-paced, multitasking, and evolving work environment.
- A keen sense of urgency.
Required Education/Experience- Minimum three years of experience material control, planning or purchasing experience.
- Knowledge of Oracle or other ERP systems.
- Project management, order management, or planning experience.
- Knowledge of an integrated planning system required.
- Analytical skills including but not limited to: expertise using Excel (and other MS Office application software) and knowledge and expertise of MRP.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent required.
Desired Experience- APICS, CPM certificate desired.
