Summary:
Regeneron is a fully integrated biopharmaceutical company that discovers, develops, and commercializes medicines for the treatment of serious medical conditions. In addition to ARCALYST (rilonacept) Injection for Subcutaneous Use, its first commercialized product, Regeneron has evaluated therapeutic candidates in Phase 3 clinical trials for the potential treatment of gout, diseases of the eye (wet age-related macular degeneration and central retinal vein occlusion), and certain cancers. Additional therapeutic candidates are in earlier stage development programs in rheumatoid arthritis and other inflammatory conditions, pain, cholesterol reduction, allergic and immune conditions, and cancer.
Summary
Manages laboratory animal facility providing oversight of daily operations. Maintains vivarium to inspection- ready condition at all times. Ensures staffing levels are appropriate to ensure proper care and compliance with department Standard Operating Procedures, regulations and policies. Advises staff regarding requirements for compliance with safety, and state and federal guidelines for operation of a vivarium. Monitors care and health of animals. Provides input with respect to hiring personnel and performance evaluations. Provides managerial support for Vivarium Operations Senior Management during absences. Orders equipment and supplies as required.
Job Duties:
Responsibilities
- Manages and coordinates activities of workers involved in operations of animal facility; arranges purchase of items, such as equipment and supplies.
- Oversees the vivarium staff by providing work direction to Associate Manager(s)/Supervisor(s) and Animal Care Technicians.
- Plans, schedules and assigns work to ensure efficient utilization of manpower, equipment and facilities.
- Reassigns team to other assignments based on staffing needs. Verifies time for FTE reporting and pay purposes.
- Instructs workers regarding procedures, such as daily husbandry schedules and proper documentation.
- Reviews work of personnel to determine established procedures are followed and to verify accuracy of documentation.
- Oversees the maintenance of accurate records and inventories related to supplies, equipment, and receipt and assignment of animals.
- Conducts routine inspections of animal facilities to ensure the maintenance of required sanitation standards; observe and report noticeable or unusual changes in animals.
- Oversees maintenance of the equipment within the animal facility
- Works with Vivarium Senior Management to provide training programs for animal care technicians and management staff. Ensures checklist of procedures for new hires completed and follow-up to ensure completion of missing items.
- Collaborates on the development of animal care facilities processes and policies.
- Provides input and writes performance evaluations for assigned staff. Provides input into hiring, termination and disciplinary actions for team.
- Assists vivarium management, in such duties as may be assigned or delegated and assume the duties and responsibilities of Associate Director/Senior Manager in his/her absence.
- Maintains facility documentation and tracking reports as necessary
- Provides input to database development.
- Intermediate/In-depth knowledge of the function/husbandry of semi-rigid isolators (if applicable)
- Responds to after-hours emergency calls
- Other duties as assigned or required
Requirements:
Experience
Bachelor of Science degree in biological sciences or veterinary technology is preferred. A minimum of 8-10 years of supervisory experience in laboratory animal science or veterinary technology is required. AALAS certification at the LATg level is required or attainable within 1 year. Pursuit of the CMAR certification by AALAS is desirable.
Required Skills
Knowledge of applicable regulations regarding the proper standards of animal care and use in a research environment, esp. substantial understanding of 'The Guide'. Strong interpersonal skills, excellent written and verbal communication skills, able to interact effectively with coworkers and key stakeholders in other disciplines to develop excellent communication and rapport, able to collaborate/inspire others, strong management and organizational skills, has creative ideas, able to motivate staff, effective time management, and advanced computer skills, (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, FileMaker Pro).
Positions will require the individual to pass a physical before beginning employment.
