Description:
The mission of Newell Brands’ Global Real Estate team is to partner with our internal customers to develop and deliver progressive Real Estate and Facilities solutions that create value by supporting growth and driving out costs. This role will be the autonomous FM lead empowering Newell’s mission critical Global Design Center in Kalamazoo, MI.
Newell believes that the appearance and maintenance operations of our Facilities are in many ways a direct reflection of the integrity and professionalism of the BE who supports them. We are looking for a service-minded professional who is detail oriented and ready to maintain world class Facilities.
The BE is the on-site Facilities leader who either leads or self performs all maintenance activities at our state-of-the-art Global Design Center. This is a 63,000 square foot hybrid building consisting of a large portion of traditional office environment, and many highly specialized functionalities empowering the R&D infrastructure. They will also support a smaller off site multi-use facility nearby.
The candidate should be well versed in maintenance practices for base building, plant operations, utilities, small construction, installations, life safety, HVAC, lighting, general maintenance, outside service coordination, and repairs.
The ideal BE is “jack-of-all trades” and might have capabilities in appliance repair, carpentry, plumbing, machine and equipment repair, low voltage and electrical, HVAC, painting, drywall, or carpentry/framing.
The BE establishes and owns the timing and scheduling of all predictive and proactive maintenance cycles for the buildings, and ensures they are current at all times.
A successful BE will have a "roll up their sleeves" mentality with the know-how to perform all facility maintenance requirements, but will also lead the scope, bid, and coordination of many supporting outside vendors.
The BE is a customer service leader and team player. The ideal candidate will be able to address the maintenance concerns of our personnel in a friendly and professional manner.
Communication, ESPECIALLY “status” communication to customers on extended lead time issues is essential.
A successful candidate must have strong organizational abilities, follow-up skills, and great attention to detail in a fast-paced environment.
Desired:
-The BE is capable of managing building improvement projects of a complex nature
-The ideal candidate will ensure projects are on time and on budget.
-The ideal candidate would also have project management experience to aide in the coordination of tasks in a fast-paced environment.
-Additionally, the BE will manage relationships with outside vendors and contractors working for Newell as well as assist in directing subcontractors on projects.
- Good computer skills are needed! A great BE will use a variety of standard programs such as BMS/EMS systems, Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Internet Explorer, light AutoCAD updates (tracking names), as well as a variety of Newell internal programs.
- Good financial awareness and administrative skills are a must. The BE must have a solid budgetary understanding of facility maintenance costs and run rates, and help make fiscal decisions based upon forecasted repair needs.
- A BE must have strong communication and follow-up skills, both with senior management and other team members.
- Multi-tasking and adaptation are key elements to success! The BE must efficiently handle a changing environment and be capable of dealing with multiple people and various situations simultaneously.
- The BE is able and willing to move heavy equipment and machinery as needed.
- This is a hands-on, working role, interacting daily with multiple team members around a state of the art facility.
- The BE is expected to be an integral part of the day to day Facilities team activities throughout the space, with the goal of ensuring each other’s success.
Qualifications –
24/7 Emergency response availability a must.
Minimum of 2 year college degree in building trades and/or systems or 5 years directly relevant experience.
