Overview

The Business Analyst will be responsible for translating unique business needs into programming logic, data sets, visualizations and reports that answer the questions most pertinent to the Cancer Genetics unit at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. In addition to this work, the Business Analyst will work in conjunction with the Clinical Operations & Business Analytics team to prepare summaries of relevant data in order to influence the success of key initiatives and build consensus around important decisions for the Cancer Genetics and Prevention group.

The Clinical Operations and Business Analytics team is part of the strategic initiative at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute to enable the transformation of data into insights and actionable information to the different operational, clinical, and business departments across the institute.

The Division of Cancer Genetics and Prevention is a team of medical oncologists, gastroenterologists, geneticists, genetic counselors, and nurses who provide cancer risk assessment and comprehensive recommendations for managing cancer risk.

Responsibilities

The Business Analyst will report directly to the Administrative Director for Genetics and Prevention with a dotted line to the Clinical Operations & Business Analytics Team Lead.

• Collaborate with the Clinical Operations & Business Analytics team, Cancer Genetics & Prevention team, and additional Dana-Farber stakeholders to prioritize and generate analytics that address multiple needs and serve as the sources of truth on key business and patient care metrics.
• Serve as the primary steward of Cancer Genetics & Prevention needs, translating business, clinical, and operational questions into specific requirements that can be answered using Dana-Farber's data assets.
• Prepare and present summaries of data for executive stakeholders looking to address Cancer Genetics & Prevention’s most pressing and impactful needs.
• Collaborates with Cancer Genetics database manager to ensure the accurate flow of data between the clinical database (EPIC) and genetics database.
• Provide conceptual and technical support to end users, both through group trainings as well as one-on-one support.
• Maintain open communication with managers and identify any concerns or problems which may hinder achievement of deadlines and or/ accomplishments of responsibilities.
• Contribute to the institute-wide analytic community of practice by training and bringing together analysts, stewards, and analytics consumers.

The Business Analyst will be responsible for taking initiative on new projects and ad hoc reports. This individual will work with a variety of tools (ex: SQL, Excel, Oracle etc.) to access data, write queries, develop programming logic, run reports, and manipulate and analyze large datasets to support the needs of the program.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required in statistics, mathematics, public health, or related domain
• 2+ years of related work experience in a data analytics role within the healthcare, life sciences or academic field
• Fluency in SQL syntax and comfort designing, manipulating, and executing SQL queries required
• Familiarity navigating EMR Systems. EPIC experience preferred but not required. EPIC training/additional opportunities for professional development will be made available
• Experience utilizing, editing, and sharing results from business intelligence tools such as Tableau preferred
• A strong desire to explore, investigate, and uncover patterns in data while maintaining focus on pragmatic solutions
• Ability to function independently in a fast-paced environment while managing multiple priorities
