Qualifications

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Design, HCI, CS, a related field or equivalent practical experience.
  • 4 years of experience in a related field.
  • Experience in working with multidisciplinary UX and/or Product teams on technical implementation.
  • Experience in implementing visual design systems across a range of platforms in an iterative software development environment.

Preferred qualifications:

  • An online portfolio of work that demonstrates: quirk and humor, independent-thinking; DIY approaches and self-initiated project development; an interest in design and development tools; and examples of story and character-driven projects.
  • Experience in designing usable web-based interfaces.
  • Expertise with industry standard creative software (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite, Sketch).
  • Knowledge of JavaScript, HTML, CSS and bespoke Javascript libraries for rapid prototyping purposes.
  • Excellent 3D and motion design skills.

The Doodles team is the tight-knit, interdisciplinary group responsible for building experiences that surprise, delight and inspire millions of Google users worldwide. Doodles are the fun and delightful changes to the Google logo, and Doodlers are the people who help bring them to life. These experiences celebrate holidays, anniversaries and the lives of famous artists, pioneers and scientists—moments that both inspire and connect with users.

As a Creative Technologist, you’ll work closely with Product Managers, Engineers, Illustrators, Designers and Animators to make Google Doodles and other delightful experiences across Google. This role will put you at the leading edge of human-centered design, story-telling, product and technology.

User experience is at the forefront of how we create intuitive, innovative, and beautiful products that people love. We strive to learn and understand our users’ needs, behaviors, and emotions to gather insights that inform product strategy and design. Our UX teams include designers, researchers, content strategists, and engineers who are passionate about quality, usability, and simplicity. We work on collaborative teams to solve complex challenges and craft experiences that highlight our products’ unique capabilities and personalities. Our work touches billions while exemplifying a key principle that is core to Google’s philosophy: “Focus on the user and all else will follow.”

Responsibilities

  • Pitch ideas and create delightful digital experiences.
  • Complete projects with short-, medium- and long-term deadlines.
  • Translate creative concepts into low to high-fidelity interactive prototypes for testing and analysis.
  • Write smart, extensible code.
  • Evaluate product quality and recommend design changes.
