Creative Director

Job Description

Discord is looking for an experienced Creative Director to support our team of graphic designers, illustrators, animators, and copywriters. As a leader on our creative team, your knowledgeable eye will keep watch over all aspects of our creative output and ensure it is supported along its journey to a successful launch, while also helping our talented artists grow in their careers. We are a friendly, collaborative team who focuses on creating high-quality experiences that grow Discord above everything else.

• Complement our existing art direction and brand identity with your own strategic creative vision
• Motivate and inspire our designers to do their best work without micromanaging
• Create a culture of critique and feedback that is healthy, supportive, and open
• Function as team advocate to ensure a cohesive vision of Discord’s identity in all audience facing respects
• Recruiting and fostering the career growth of designers, product illustrators, animators, and copywriters in accordance with the growth of the company
• Manage internal and external projects and timelines
• Work closely with the Product/Engineering and Marketing teams to be sure our creative pursuits are in alignment with their goals and supporting their specific needs
• You’ll help define our employer brand and highlight what makes Discord a perfect place to do great design work

• Excellent ability to explain your creative vision and inspire others, but also solicit and listen to feedback
• You lead with passion and vision, and inspire others to deliver their best work while keeping them engaged and happy
• Strong portfolio that demonstrates your creativity and strategic thinking
• You are friendly, collaborative and supportive. You are genuinely interested in furthering the careers of the members of your team.
• Experience guiding high-profile projects that have a broad reach from inception to completion
• Experience managing multiple projects and tasks with varying timelines and priorities while also maintaining team budgets and resources.
• Experience with events/conferences, digital media, apparel, and advertising.
• Experience recruiting, hiring and scaling a team of varied skill sets for growth that’s appropriate to the forecasted needs of the company

• 3+ years of leading a creative team at an agency or in-house
• 8+ years experience in design or art direction

• Familiar with 3D and 2D illustrators and the tools they use
• Familiar with Animators/Motion Designers and the tools they use
• Knowledge with initiating, reviewing, negotiating and managing any outside agencies or freelancers
