Job Number: 861039 Date posted: 01/31/2020 Description: Serves as researcher and consultant on projects for the Division of Research (DOR). Works independently with general supervision by higher level Research Scientists or an Assistant Director.
Essential Functions:
- Designs, develops, and directs well-defined research. Prepares grant proposals, internal reports and publications independently and collaboratively. Provides consultation on study design, analysis plans and interpretation of study results to TPMG, KFH/P managers and committees as directed.
- Provides service to the scientific community through membership on peer review groups and national boards. May consult with local, state and national voluntary and governmental agencies. Provides consultation and direction to programmer analysts with regard to data management and analysis strategies. Presents papers at national scientific meetings; teaches and/or reviews papers for national journals. Seeks consultation from senior scientists for specific scientific and administrative issues.

- Competent in the statistical techniques, study designs and general research methods commonly used in epidemiological and health services research.
- Must be able to work in a Labor/Management Partnership environment.

Preferred Qualifications:
- Professional experience in conducting original research and publishing peer-reviewed results (analogous to academic series - Assistant Professor).

The Division of Research of The Permanente Medical Group (Kaiser Permanente Northern California) seeks an early stage or mid-career investigator to establish a nation-leading research program in dementia. The research focus of this position is on early- and midlife risk factors for dementia with a special emphasis on social determinants of health.

This Research Scientist position calls for relevant experience and research expertise in dementia, life course theory, social epidemiology, disparities research, and advanced statistical methods. The successful candidate is expected to have experience in using a range of methodological approaches, including causal inference and competing risks, in data from integrated health care delivery systems, cohort data, and publicly available historical records.
