Department Overview

Bain’s Global Engineering leads the firm’s software development efforts and defines engineering standards for Bain globally. The team ships software solutions to address client and internal needs, ranging from iterative prototypes to enterprise-grade production software. This organization is tightly affiliated with Bain’s Advanced Analytics Group (AAG) and Advanced Digital & Product Team (ADAPT).

Position Summary

You will work with the Head of Global Engineering and other senior leaders to manage day-to-day operations of the group and contribute to the growth and scale of Global Engineering, AAG, and ADAPT.

You face scale in every dimension of organizational growth: development process, enterprise clients, internal users, technology infrastructure, data, team size, geographical footprint, P&L.

This role requires exceptional organizational and interpersonal skills applied in a technical setting. You will interface with our stakeholders and drive extraordinary results via engineering solutions.

Core Responsibilities and Requirements

Operations and Program Management

  • Execution: Lead day to day operations and deliver on operational plans, client proposals, and initiatives towards realizing the strategic vision
  • Operational Cadence/Rhythm of Business: Establish operating rhythm to ensure the organization is running effectively and efficiently to meet goals and objectives
  • Budget: Plan and manage budget including annual, quarterly, and monthly expense tracking

Cross-Functional Management

  • Decision Making: Build consensus among cross-functional teams and influence decision making with leadership audiences
  • Build Relationships: Build productive and positive relationships across the organization at all levels to drive influence
  • Holistic View & Alignment: Develop and utilize frameworks to help structure the team’s thinking, drive visibility, and facilitate alignment

People and talent management

  • Talent architecture: Contribute to design and implementation
  • Recruiting & Onboarding: Help with recruiting operations and oversee new employee onboarding and training programs. Manage orientation and onboarding schedules for new starters, own onboarding checkpoints, liaise with hiring managers, local HR, and TAG HR to ensure smooth transition
  • Culture & Engagement: Be a culture carrier and keep pulse on team morale and motivation; conduct surveys to gauge employee satisfaction and sentiment
  • Event Planning: Maintain an annual calendar of yearly events, driving employee engagement, experience sharing
  • Communication Calendar: Create, manage and maintain specific communications and cadence for All Hands meetings, team meetings, ongoing communications, etc.

Programs

  • Project Management: Develop, drive, and track backlog of team initiatives from cradle to grave: business case, scope, cost, schedule, action cycles, risks, issues, decisions, interdependencies, and milestones.
  • Special Projects: Identify and implement new initiatives with key stakeholders to develop, champion, and launch new initiatives.
  • Tooling: Instill use of tools across the team (such as Confluence, Jira, Slack, etc.)

Planning, Reporting, Metrics, and KPIs

  • Planning: Run organizational planning and business rhythm process in alignment with all other functions to develop vision, mission, goals, objectives and key results (OKRs), resource and capital plans, etc.
  • Reporting: Author, manage, and deliver executive level reporting, including weekly, monthly, quarterly status reports to manage risks and issues and improve team communication and collaboration.
  • Metrics: Lead creation, identification, and insights of metrics to improve business performance and drive business actions.
  • KPIs: Develop and track key KPIs across the team to track strategic goals, milestones and accomplishments.
  • This position will be located in Los Angeles, Palo Alto, or remotely
  • Travel required (~10%)

Qualifications

Required

  • BS/MS/MBA degree or equivalent work experience
  • 8+ years of experience in program management, business operations, or 3+ years in strategy consulting environment, or equivalent role
  • Experience creating quarterly and yearly OKRs or KPIs for an organization of 30+
  • Strong interpersonal skills as you will be interfacing across many areas and levels of Bain
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong presentation and facilitation skills – ability to communicate with senior business executives both in person and over the phone
  • Strong problem solving and analytical abilities with focus on results
  • Experience in coordinating events/workshops
  • Agile development

Preferred

  • Education in Computer Science or related technical field
  • 2+ years in strategy consulting environment (Bain alumni ideal)
  • Early stage startup experience
  • Experience shipping production software
  • Strong understanding of software engineering best practices
  • Experience working with recruiting and HR teams on recruiting initiatives
