Technical Project Manager - Mintel Data Platform

Job Description

The Mintel Data Platform is tasked with ingesting, enriching, and publishing marketing data. Our cross-functional team of architects, engineers, and cloud gurus take a holistic, forward-thinking approach to building ETL pipelines, machine learning pipelines, and cloud infrastructure.

Our team of 20 is subdivided into 5 squads with slightly different focuses - Architecture, Data Ingestion, Data Enrichment, MLOps and System Reliability. Squads work closely together but maintain control over their domain, liaising directly with their business stakeholders and setting their own working practices.

What You Will Do:

As we have 5 squad leads on the teams, most of the daily scrum/ business requirements gathering and meeting facilitation will be handled by them. Your role is to help them be their best.

• Understanding our overall goals, on occasion organizing activities to dig into detail of requirements and unearth cross-team risks and challenges.
• Building great relationships of mutual trust with developers on your team. Taking on line management responsibility for some team members, helping them to grow in their careers and improve their effectiveness. Working with all team members to help them grow, improving productivity of your team overall.
• Encouraging introspection, driving continuous improvement activities within the broader team, occasionally facilitating retrospectives of squads.
• Helping the team to develop a sense of ownership of their work and their product, in particular encouraging them to improve their QA practices and advocating for non-functional system improvements.
• Getting involved in department improvements holistically. Through effective networking with other colleagues, or via our Communities of Practice or Management catch ups, we’ll want to see our whole department improving from your energy, skills and experience. You’ll serve as conduit for cross-functional collaboration and knowledge sharing.
• Establish milestones, identify project risks early and provide timely recommendations for risk mitigation. Maintain cross-squad overarching project documentation.
• Work alongside our architect to consolidate and balance between technical requirements and business requirements.
• Provide senior management and other business stakeholders with regular project updates. When necessary, drive escalations and resolution of issues.
• Be the key technical point of contact with external data vendors.

We’re looking for a Technical Project Manager to work alongside our 5 squad leads, our architect, our business stakeholders and IT management. This is a chance to be involved with a key initiative that will transform the way all our products at Mintel are produced, impacting all our clients both present and future.

• Demonstrated success of project managing multiple technical teams in a scaled agile environment.
• Prior experience line managing software engineers, preferably including seniors.
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to effectively facilitate meetings.
• History of leading project teams, delegating work, holding team members accountable and proactively overcoming obstacles.
• Excellent written, verbal and communication skills with the ability to effectively interact with and present to stakeholders including senior leadership.
