This is a position for a developing Software Engineer to design and develop real time embedded software for data capture devices using 8, 16 and 32 bit microcontrollers. Engineers in this position will work on a multi discipline team, interfacing with electrical, mechanical and manufacturing engineers. Excellent interpersonal skills are essential. Engineers at this level will work as technical contributors on a software development team under the direction of a lead software engineer. Engineers at this level will work on a variety of problems of moderately complex scope where analysis of situations or data requires a review of a variety of factors.

The complete software development lifecycle including requirements analysis, design, coding and testing is expected to be followed.

Responsibilities

• Designs, develops, and tests on a variety of firmware assignments that constitute a portion of a larger project
• Develops and tests documentation which describes the specific firmware functionality
• Participates and provides some input in project code reviews
• Runs software tests designed by more experienced engineers
• Reviews test results and perform root cause analyses to identify problems
• Provides recommendations and implements solutions to complex issues. Insures compliance with quality process and standards
• Makes changes to or upgrades existing firmware. Enhances and improves existing technologies to apply to new solutions
• Makes and implements recommendations to immediate team to enhance performance and improve efficiency
• Seeks out new tools to analyze and tackle problems
• Exercises judgment within defined procedures and practices to resolve appropriate action
• Receives general instructions on routine work, new projects or assignments
• May provide guidance to non-exempt personnel
• Builds productive working relationships internally and externally
• Primary intra-organizational with occasional inter-organizational and external customer contacts on routine matters

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Masters degree in an appropriate engineering discipline required
• Bachelors degree and 2+ years or Masters degree with no experience
• Experience programming real time embedded systems with 8, 16 and 32 bit microprocessors / microcontrollers
• Good working knowledge of the C/C++ programming language.
• Some assembly language programming experience is desired.
• Experience with Real Time Operating Systems is desired
• Experience with JTAG Emulators is desired
• Good troubleshooting / problem solving skills.
