Job Description

Internship Description RTI International seeks a candidate for a Radiochemistry Internship within the the Radiochemistry group, which synthesizes radio and stable isotope labelled compounds to support both internal RTI projects and for external clients. RTI's Internship Program emphasizes experiential and mentored learning experiences, providing students and recent degree recipients an opportunity to apply their academic knowledge and skills in a meaningful and practical way. We are committed to developing the future workforce by encouraging interns to explore various career paths in a nonprofit research institute setting that values diversity and inclusion. Through this program, interns will become accustomed to RTI's open and educational culture, support RTI's mission to improve the human condition, and build upon career goals and grow. The intern will be conducting basic research on new methods in metal catalysed hydrogen isotope exchange. While at RTI the intern will have the opportunity to translate results obtained with the stable isotope deuterium to the radioactive isotope.
The Radiochemistry Intern will have responsibilities that include, but are not limited to:
  • Conducting research in metal catalysed hydrogen isotope exchange
  • Operating of LC/MS equipment for analysis
  • Operating of analytical hplc equipment
  • Learning to work with the radioisotope tritium
  • Documenting of the results in a lab notebook and giving a departmental seminar towards the end of the internship
Additional Information
This academic credit U.S.-based internship, located in RTP, NC will take place from March 2020 through June 2020.
The internship requires a minimum commitment of 40 hours per week. Hours are flexible during business hours (8:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m., Monday through Friday). Required Qualifications
  • Currently enrolled in PhD program and is studying metal catalysed hydrogen isotope exchange chemistry
  • Eligible to receive an academic credit or fulfill an academic program requirement
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Willingness to work in a radiosynthesis laboratory
Preferred Qualifications
  • Ability to work with a high degree of independence
  • Strong self-motivation
