Job summary

The Business Insights and Planning team is looking for a Data Science Intern to join us in Raleigh, NC next summer. In this role, you will apply analytical rigor and statistical methods to use data to guide decision making, product development, and strategic initiatives. You will collaborate closely with a team focused on data engineering, descriptive analytics, A/B testing, predictive modeling, automation, application development, and stakeholder management. As a Data Science Intern, you will focus on highlighting ways to apply Red Hat’s offerings in artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning (ML), and data science. You will also participate in upstream open source communities.

Primary job responsibilities

• Perform end-to-end analyses, including data gathering and processing, analyzing, modeling, validating, presenting, maintenance, and improvement
• Create use cases for data science capabilities using Red Hat’s offerings like creating services using Python that run in the Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform
• Make recommendations with effective presentations through visually compelling analytical results
• Publicize your work through blogs, postings, and team presentations
• Serve as an advocate for AI and ML in Red Hat's pursuit of enhancing the value of the subscription

Required skills

• Proficiency with analytical tools and development experience, e.g., R or Python
• Knowledge of relational databases and SQL
• Experience with a distributed version control system, e.g., Git
• Experience building machine learning models, e.g., kNN, clustering, regularization, random forest, SVM, naive Bayes, or boosting
• Familiarity with cloud and virtualization infrastructures, including Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform and Red Hat OpenStack Platform
• Solid interpersonal and written, verbal, and visual communication skills to present complex analytical results concisely and effectively to a broad audience
• Ability to work well in a team and effectively interact with partners and stakeholders across global regions
• Ability to adapt quickly to shifting priorities
• Excellent communication, organization, and time management skills
