Internship Description HR Directions seeks a candidate for its client, RTI International, for a Data Science, Machine Learning & Artificial Intelligence Internship within the Global Technology Solutions (GTS) group. GTS caters to the diverse technology needs of RTI and its effort to digitally transform the Institute. GTS provides technical support, resources, and services to help staff work efficiently and effectively in compliance with RTI policies. Administrative functions and make RTI a global leader in finding innovative solutions to technological challenges. RTI's Internship Program emphasizes experiential and mentored learning experiences, providing students and recent degree recipients an opportunity to apply their academic knowledge and skills in a meaningful and practical way. The selected intern will be involved with several key projects as well as delivering new solutions based on use cases defined by interviewing key members of the business. The intern will get exposure to different ML/AI and data science technologies including Azure Machine Learning, Ruby on Rails, R, Python using real world datasets. The intern will work with internal customers to define the expected outcomes, interview data stewards and GTS colleagues to identify proper data sets, design and build the models and deploy the solution in an automated solution. The intern will also be responsible for supporting existing projects to ensure proper operation and effectiveness. Upon completion of the internship the intern will have gained full life-cycle experience in the production of an ML solution and present their project to leaders at RTI's Annual Internship Showcase. In this role, the selected candidate will gain valuable experience in artificial intelligence and machine learning applications, and develop software solutions for real world problems. The intern will be part of a highly dynamic development team and will be involved in the solution design from the conceptual stages through the development cycle and deployments. At RTI, the intern will be able to network with some of the best minds in data analysis and modeling.
The Data Science, Machine Learning & Artificial Intelligence Intern will have responsibilities that include, but are not limited to:
- Concentrating on data science and the full pipeline of Machine Learning
- Creating machine learning and predictive models, databases, big data frameworks
- Working with business sponsors to understand requirements and produce the expected results
Additional Information This paid internship, located in RTI's Research Triangle Park Office, will take place from June 2020 through August 2020.
The internship requires a minimum commitment of 20 hours per week, not to exceed 40 hours per week. Hours are flexible during business hours (8:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m., Monday through Friday).
Required Qualifications - Must be a currently enrolled graduate student or graduate student who has graduated within the last year and will be within one calendar year of graduation for the entirety of the placement
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States, and should not require now, or in the future, sponsorship for employment visa status
- Must be willing and able to work from RTI's Research Triangle Park Office for the duration of the placement
- Strong understanding of programming languages extensively used in Data Science applications
- Familiarity with machine learning techniques
- Self-directed, detail-oriented and a team player
Preferred Qualifications - Ability to work well independently and on teams
- Experience with and an appreciation for agile principles and practices
- Experience with one or more general purpose programming languages including but not limited to: JavaScript, C/C++ or Python, R
- Strong problem solving and analytical skills
